404493 2005-11-16 19:05:00 Just watched Close Up and the follow up story to last nights Internet Security segment. They mentioned that useful links sent into the show have been posted on the TVNZ website, so I took a looksie ...

PressF1's FAQ 16 on "Spyware, adware and viruses - how do I get rid of them?" is one of the 5 links given

Also, I see the Auckland Linux Users Group is listed ;)

Good - I emailed them and mentioned it - perhaps others did too.

404494 2005-11-16 19:30:00 I turned it off 1/2 way through as well .
The internet is a great whipping boy for the media when they run out of stories, its great shock / horror material . You can always find an agrieved person there somewhere .

The guy was hacked from his OWN computer . How bad is that? Obviously he had no protection at all .

All you need is to configure your firewall properly, and it would stop any keyloggers or trogens . Cost $0 .

Would he get this upset if he was run over playing ball on the motorway? If you don't know the rules then you pay the costs .

i don't think ALL the blame can go on him. look at all the IT pros, ISP's etc that are still saying you don't need a firewall. even these **** that say "windows firewall is enough" bah :(

the professionals looking after the pc's are some of the biggest culprits. how can adverage joe be sicurity minded when the pc industry sets them up to fail ??

404497 2005-11-17 01:39:00 I saw a customer again that I have been to twice already. Last time I made them buy ZA, installed all the usual anti-spywares etc, gave them some docs and some hands on tuition.
He rang this morning and the PC locked up, its been running slow, it now doesn't boot etc etc. What was he doing at the time? Internet banking. When had he last run scans? Two weeks ago.
His wife has a PC too, checked hers when I got there as I wanted him to go change his password - she said hers was fine. Not. 91 spywares, ADAware hadn't been run for 399 days.
