677702 2008-06-15 02:00:00 I doubt it is Orcon's Fault for the slow Broad band unless they have their own lines into your house. I am with IsLUG ( now Vodaphone) and it is dreadfully slow from time to time. However, it is still Telecom's broadband service that provides the connection for most ISPs who don't have their own lines like Telstra do in Wellington and Christchurch. It makes no difference if Orcon is a Government owned outfit or not as it is STILL Telecom's circuits they use unless you are being supplied with one of the unbundled Telecom exchanges where ISPs have installed their own ADSL gear. Not many exchanges have been unbundled yet and besides, Telecom may get around that by installing street cabinets away from the exchange between the line subscriber and the exchange to ostensibly provide a faster Broad band service on their system but that might make it difficult for other ISPS to use their own ADSL on lines connected to these cabinets which incidentally do up the speed a lot. riscpc (5756)
677703 2008-06-15 22:03:00 Orcon. NZ sites working good. Overseas sites very, very slow. They admitted this morning they have a problem and dont know when it will be fixed! Last time ( 5 weeks ago ) it was, somebody pulled out a cable and put it back in the wrong hole! royaloaks (8205)
