405730 2005-11-21 04:52:00 This is a dumb thread.

Windows and Linux are chalk and cheese.

Try playing most mainstream games on Linux (you can't, Wine sux)
Try Running the entire internet on Windows (god help us)

Windows is attacked far more by hackers and Spyware makers as 95% of the worlds desktops are using Windows, and MS security is suspect to allow better 3rd part app support amongst other things.

By the Way, Windows was actually built from Linux did you know that?

Dos was based on Linux, Windows was built over Dos.May I suggest a bit of research Dos was NOT based on Linux. Linux came out well after Dos was created and is a *nix workalie. Something Dos never was ie-a multithread, multitasking, multiuser operating system. There are two animals of "MS Windows" Dos based now obandoned by MS, well not quite but its getting there and "New Tecnology based"-loosely based originally on VMS I think but went pear shaped hense the security issues.Just nit picking I know. A Dos timeline here- stud3.tuwien.ac.at

Really!! gee didn't know that "Sarcasm" .

The original MS dos (renamed from Qdos) build for the 8086 process shared many characteristics of the Unix of the time, thus is why it is so easily emulated under Linux using "dosemu" . When I say "share" I mean "stolen" wink wink! . LINUX CAME FROM UNIX FOOL! .

The original windows 3 . 0 (if I remember correctly) was based on Dos, nothing more than a front end menu . I think we all know WindowsXP uses different technology but thanks for pointing that out! .

This whole Linux fanboy crap is getting a little old don't you think?

405732 2005-11-21 05:12:00 I know this is leading somewhere, but for the moment it eludes me . Think you were meaning it is getting time to get the marshmellows out to toast on the bonfire?

You have certainly come back with a hiss and a roar with your choice of topics mark . p

Who cares what OS you use as long as it suits your needs and interests . No single OS is perfect nor suits everyone .

405738 2005-11-21 05:35:00 Know what ya mean. I bet there are Apple folk who feel the same :xmouth:

That's funny you seem to be sticking up for the original post.

Different O/S for different people and apps. Apple certainly have there advantages with video editing etc, but as I posted a way back no good for the high end gamer etc.

If only 5% of the World's users used Windows XP, I am sure there would be very few viruses and next to no spyware, its not rocket science. Why write spyware or a virus to attack only 5%, you would obvously gun for the 90% O/S.

Microsoft are poor with there security which there is no arguement, but the problems are amplified by there market share.

405739 2005-11-21 05:39:00 Certainly did . I think you have MS Windows 1 . 01 and 3 mixed up . :badpc:

Thanks for googling that . I believe the first major commerically destributed versions was 3 . 0 and then 3 . 1 .

A kindygarten student would probably realise there was a 1 . 0 or even a . 6 Beta or Alpha .
