2005-11-18 08:49:00 | For the last week I have been getting 2 - 4 bogus emails through my ISP, Paradise. Is anyone else having problems like this? I'm hacked off with Paradise for letting this junk get through. Yes. Several of my friends on Paradise have had them too recently. And before that it was bounced mail - Paradise was on Spamcops blacklist there for a bit... Seemed to have gone downhill lately.

2005-11-18 10:16:00 | MMMMMMMMMMMMM! Spam. I guess it's part of my diet now. If it's a problem then the best solution is to change your eMail addy and inform your friends. Spam blockers are never 100% and I have several contacts that come through my spam checker as Spam so I dont use it as a filter, complete waste of time. As a rule you should treat your eMail addy as you would your phone number, only give it to people you want to contact you, people you trust won't pass it on to a stalker.

2005-11-18 18:07:00 | use Pegasus it has a feature I just love selective mail download, you can even delete the beasties at server level. no need for mailwasher or spampal (btw both are good programs). Correct. I do use it. Nowadays I use it regularly. Prior to the junk mail, I would use it only to download large files, since I have Pegasus set up to only download emails less than 400 kb - since I am on dialup it stops looooong downloads when I don't want them. I guess I am just spoiled :p .... having changed my email address a couple of years ago to stop junk mail, I have been virtually junk mail free for all that time, and now that it has started again I am hacked off.

2005-11-18 18:09:00 | Spampal does a pretty good job, and Poptray may too, with dealing with spam. Both are free, and both can also blacklist a whole isp / domain known for spamming. Sounds good Speedy. I will check them out. I like the idea of blacklisting a whole ISP / domain. Thanks.

2005-11-18 18:50:00 | Sounds good Speedy . I will check them out . I like the idea of blacklisting a whole ISP / domain . Thanks . No worries :) Umm there is a bit of configuring to do in OE, (not much tho) if u use OE . BUT Spampal does work with most email programs . This is the url for spampal btw . http://www . spampal . org I'm using the 1 . 73 beta . Works OK for me . In OE, the pop server needs to be changed to 127 . 0 . 0 . 1 and the SMTP server remains the same (ie: smpt . isp . co . nz) . And the login will change from username to username@pop . isp . co . nz This is how spampal works, it catches the 127 . 0 . 0 . 1 you enter in OE as the pop address . For incoming email, that maybe spam . And Spampal also has a whitelist, so ppl u know, u can add to the whitelist, so you'll still get valid email, from whoever . And u have to make 1 message rule under mail . ie: create a new mail message rule . Select Subject line contains the word **SPAM** and then select the option under select the options for your rule (I selected delete from server), and thats it! Help for this is on the spampal site anyway . Poptray which is also free, is a email notifier (similar to the Gmail notifier, but for pop email) . The icon sits in the taskbar . This can be configured to scan/check for email (every 5 mins by default, or u can change it to 20/30 mins, whatever u want) . Put exactly the same entries in as above for OE . When it scans, it'll also go thru spampal, and spampal will check its blacklist and delete emails from isps / people / domains etc you've blacklisted . Poptray is good coz u can preview whats in your email, (without opening OE at all, or you can launch OE from within Poptray), if u get some email, and delete it from within Poptray if its spam, and also add it to either its blacklist . (You may have to make a rule in Poptray too, or copy and paste what it adds to its blacklist, to spampal's blacklist instead) . If you want some isps / domains to blacklist send me a PM,and I'll send u a zip file you can extract (a text file), either thru email, or I can copy and paste them in a PM . So u can add them to spampal's blacklist lol (theres at least 60+ domains/isps I've blacklisted in spampal) .

Pegasus has so many features that I am not using all of them. I have version 4.12c. Do I start with Tools > Mail Filtering Rules ? |
