| 677594 | 2008-06-11 12:36:00 | Got a free Toshiba M200 laptop from a friend but I think it needs some fixing. On the desktop it says something about "Active Desktop Recovery" which I have never heard of and trying to and follow the instructions on the desktop is impossible cause if I right click the desktop and select properties it opens up the error message :rundll.exe "The application failed to initialize properly(0xc0000005) Click OK to terminate the application." The same thing happens when I try to access My computer properties. I cannot open add/remove programs either. I thought it might be a trojan or something so I scanned with Trojan Remover. The application wouldn't even open though. It came up with the same error message. I tried fastscan and it worked but it doesn't remove trojans so I did it manually through HijackThis. But the errors still keep coming. I really don't want to format the Hard Drive cause I don't have the original XP CD needed to reinstall XP. Would sfc /scannow help? |

The first thing to do is do a Hijack this scan and post the log here if you can get it to run. You can also run an online virus scam if you can open up a browser from here: www.eset.com/onlinescan/ |
