404501 2005-11-15 08:23:00 Helloo,

Can someone please help me?
I have a canon S70 and i am using this to take a passport pic.

somehow its not taking the pic correctly. The face appears to be dark etc and there does not seem to be enough light..even the background white material is bit dark

I have set it to Auto mode and have got a white background (cloth) and there is ample light inside my house. In fact i am trying i during daytime with more natural light and also turn on the lights. The flash also fires correctly (its quite bright for a digi cam)

Anyone has any ideas or tips on how to setup so more the background is more lighted and also face turns out ok. Do i need to change camera settings or take the pic maybe outside with more natural lighting or put a lighting source behind the subject. Also if this is the case then where can i get a cheap lighting source...does it have to be from a camera shop

404502 2005-11-15 08:35:00 Immigration are getting more and more picky about passport pics, my advice would be to get it done professionally. My sisters friend submitted a photo and they rejected it because she had sunglasses on behind her head and they could see two black "dots". She got another one done and they rejected it because she was 'too close'. pine-o-cleen (2955)
404503 2005-11-15 08:39:00 Just note that the specifications for passport photos now state that the background cannot be black or white. They are very picky at how big the photo is too - ie what %age your face occupies in the photo.

When I took mine, I just pointed several desk lamps at me against a creamy coloured wall. That seemed to provide adequate lighting without glare or large shadows.

404504 2005-11-15 09:01:00 Chemist use digital for passport so I guess its not gonna be too hard.

I don't know what modes the cam have. But if the pix is too dark, use your +ve value, to make the photo brighter. Resize and stuff, contrast etc.. and print out at shop or your own printer if its decent enof. There are some v v good printers thats able to match retail labs and archive to 88yrs.

The reason your camera maybe underexposing the photo is dark is because of the white cloth behind the person. The camera relies on 18% light reflected tone, some may arge 12% but I dunno. Anyway, becos white reflects much more ur pix come out too dark. If you got a black cloth, it will reflect less, thus pix will be too bright. Maybe try a green or blue cloth back and see how it works out.. but all you gotta do is adjust the +ve figure to make the pix brighter .. refer to the LCD and/or histogram.

Edit, all u need is adjust the +ve figure on cam and a plain white wall. Pose the person correctly and printed correctly.
