678769 2008-06-16 03:46:00 If she expects people to trust her site then she should do it properly and have a secure e-commerce site. pctek (84)
678770 2008-06-16 04:44:00 Plenty of cheap webhosts around the world that can enable a decent business online.
Use google and you may even find some cheapish kiwi based ones... like www.hostworkz.co.nz
(am i breaking the rules? am a client not an owner/partner of said business).

real question is at what cost??

last time I asked a good secure server was $400 per month.

I dont expect her to have more than $400 per month of sales to start with....

web design is not a problem she has skills, secure cgi is a out of our skill set :-)

678772 2008-06-16 08:21:00 paypal springs to mind by they suck.In what way? I've been using a business account with PayPal for around three years and have never had a problem. Also take a look at 2CO (http://www.2checkout.com). The setup fee is only US$49 and you can bill in New Zealand dollars.

You don't need a dedicated server for the site to be secure. Shared hosting with a dedicated IP and a security certificate is fine. However, obviously you want to go with an established host (one that has been around at least two or three years) with a good track record (check Web Hosting Talk (http://www.webhostingtalk.com) for feedback, but remember that people complain a lot more than they praise for obvious reasons) and get a good e-commerce system (can't make any recommendations myself).
