678675 2008-06-15 10:33:00 Hi guys, i've acquired an old style print server in amongst some networking gear (including some Ethernet 10baseT to thin net 10base2 adaptors which the server is hooked up to) i've configured the IP address and can ping and telnet into it but how do you actually print (using windows 3.1x and up if possible):help:

ip for server is 192.168.1.254

678677 2008-06-15 12:53:00 I think you need Win 3.11 for networking a printer. Been a long time. Sweep (90)

678679 2008-06-15 16:33:00 a PDF or two, and printer installed on XP later (shared to the rest of the network) shes alive, she prints (on a dot matrix printer) although its like, i could have just plugged it in the desktop machine and shared from there, but i suppose its able to be further away and have a thinner cord to the interface

shes alive, aliiiive *laughs manically as lightning flashes*

678680 2008-06-15 20:46:00 I have a Linksys Print server. I access it via web browser to set up IP's passwords etc.

To add it to the PC's and Laptop I have to add an IPP Port (Internet Printing Protocol). The computers see it as an IPP Port rather than LPT or USB port.

678681 2008-06-16 09:27:00 DUDE, do you know how old this print server is lol. its ancient, it uses Telnet to config it and TCP/IP LPR service to print, and a Thin net (10base2) network port all of which are reasonably obsolete but still functional. williamF (115)
678682 2008-06-17 13:51:00 also i've set up a very small 10base2 network as well as the print server, got another T connector so can add another few computers on. ok its a bit slower (10Mbit as opposed to 100Mbit) but still use on modern RJ45 PCs as well (10baseT to 10base2 adaptors with 50ohm terminators in the end adaptors) williamF (115)
