2008-06-15 08:53:00 | XP SP3 - updates are enabled but only notify me so it's up to me to download (of course) so the little yellow shield tells me there are updates available to download - 95 updates? and 70 are for "security update for Windows XP' and most if not all are different - have i been lax or is this an MS hoax? - normally i do a "google" on the KB# but 95? - is there an easy explanation for this? Speedy? | jayal (1291) | |
2008-06-15 09:30:00 | So you already have XP SP3 installed? | Jen (38) | |
2008-06-15 09:37:00 | If SP3 is installed now there should only be about 8 updates to get OTOH if SP3 isnt installed thats probably right. 95 updates

2008-06-15 10:06:00 | Thanks Jen, just as an aside, is the SP3 update in total really necessary? my computer (with a little help from you guys now & then) runs along nicely - if it aint broke, etc. etc. - ?? | jayal (1291) | |
2008-06-15 10:26:00 | SP3 includes SP1 and 2, and whatever came after SP2 SP3 may not be necessary but 95 updates is a lot Have you ever installed any updates SINCE SP2 came out?

2008-06-15 10:47:00 | a few - i keep an eye on a site by "Woody Leonhard" (askwoody.com) he has pertinent comments on updates - for example he writes, June10th, "no screaming surprises in the june patches, wait as usual to see what surprises ensue" so i follow his lead and download accordingly

2008-06-15 10:53:00 | Bad idea. Does it SAY what they fix, or why you have to install them, on that site?? Or do you just go by some wannabe's words? I wouldnt listen to someone who doesnt know what he's talking about And what you posted, just then wouldnt stop me from updating windows. It doesnt tell me anything If you get hacked or you get hit by a vulnerability, (by not updating), I bet you'll change your mind then The only surprise you'll get is when you'll have to reinstall windows, or when you get hacked or something

Did you take the time to google who exactly is Woody Leonhard ... for example (www.wopr.com)? I get the impression he may have a vague idea on what he is taking about. ;) |
