678519 2008-06-14 23:29:00 Hi Team,

I've messed up my Vista a little and can't get it back to boot normally:

This was what I did:

Used Norton 12 to clone my C: (IDE) to a new SATA hdd; after it has 'successfully' copied my C: , I shut down and changed BIOS to boot from my SATA drive. Restared but it failed to start.

Changed the Boot sequence back to my old IDE hdd, restarted and after POST, I was presented with a screen asking me to choose an Operating system, there are 2 options: 1. Microsoft Windows Vista , 2. Windows Vista.

I chose no. 1 and it booted up my old Vista with everything intact. That's fine. But every time when I turn on my PC, the above choose a Operating System screen menu pops up. Very annoying.

How do I get rid of the annoying screen when loading Vista?

This happens even the SATA hdd is NOT connected to the machine.

Cheers.

678521 2008-06-15 00:01:00 Ok was going to suggest you get VistaBootPro (http://www.vistabootpro.org/) to remove the invalid entry. There is a command prompts that you can do , but thats long winded.

The reason the SATA drive wont load is because you have ghosted from a IDE to Serial, I have found the SATA Drivers don't get loaded, had you ghosted to another IDE there more than likely wouldn't be a problem.

Try this - boot the PC from the Vista DVD, run through it, until you get to the point of having to install Vista,(but dont) down the bottom left hand corner is the option to repair the computer - select that.

678524 2008-06-15 07:19:00 Further investigation, found that my new SATA hdd is recognised as SCSI disk drive in Device Manager. No wonder Seagate Tools fow windows could not check this HDD! Otherwise, this machine is working just fine.

Why is it so? Will it cause any future issues?

but I did this myself just two days ago on my own home system......it boots fine as.......

however I must say that i've removed the ide drive and the sata drive is hooked thru a raid (pci) sata card as the mobo doens't have native sata connectors.......

i'm sure i've also ghosted ide to sata before with no probs......
