One of the great things I love about Opera is that it is highly customisable, and you don't need to frig around downloading "extensions" for all the neat features that it is capable of .

Opera's integrated search engines are a great time saver and there are multiple ways of accessing them .

Using Opera's default search engine, Google, as an example you can type your keyword into the search field at the top right of the page ( . opera . com/docs/screenshots/800/03/" target="_blank">www . opera . com), press Enter and you will be taken straight to the results on Google's webpage as shown in the example .

If you wish to use a different search engine click on the drop down arrow and pick another . Other choices include Google News, Google Groups, Yahoo, eBay, Amazon and lots more .

Another way of searching is by typing directly in the address field using shortcuts . For example typing g Opera will search for "Opera" on Google .

Yet another is to press F4 to open the Panels, if it is not already open, and click on the Search button, type in your keyword and click the search engine's button .

Now for the best part of all .

If you don't like Opera's default queries then you can fully edit the search engines and change them to your own customised search entries .

Any website that has a search engine can be added to Opera .

Here ( . topazz . orcon . net . nz/opera-search01 . png" target="_blank">www . topazz . orcon . net . nz) is a screenie of my customised search engines with some of the choices at my disposal in the drop down selection box . All I need do is click in one of the boxes, type in my keywords, press Enter and the website I want to search displays the results for me, all without having to first go to that website and find its search engine .

As with the Google search engine each one can also be searched by typing directly in the address field using shortcuts allocated during the setup .

To customise and setup your own search engines you need to edit Opera's search . ini file . There are excellent Wiki tutorials on how to do this, starting with this page ( . org/wiki/SearchInOpera" target="_blank">nontroppo . org) .

Like tabbed browsing, once you have them you will wonder how you got by without them .

Opera is a FREE alternative browser to Internet Explorer that can be downloaded from www . opera . com or from MajorGeeks ( . majorgeeks . com/Opera_Without_Java_Now_Freeware_d559 . html" target="_blank">www . majorgeeks . com) .

Opera 8 . 51, a security and stability upgrade, has just been released which all current Opera users should install . It is available from the above links .
