407709 2005-11-26 01:20:00 I don't know if I should name this comapny, but its in Chch and has about 4 branches .

Anyway about 2 months ago I bought a new computer from them, spent $1400 for box . Works well . Then I bought a 256meg flash drive, also worked well . I recommended them to the many computer people I know and others wanting machines and drives, I even used their posters with their name on them in my premises because they gave good service .

Then I bought a 1 gig drive at the beginning of the month . I went to their branch by Hoyts on moorehouse Ave .

From the beginning I had trouble with it, it would spontaniously loose connection with the computer, every computer, which was really annoying, trying to move a folder of stuff could take about 5 or 6 attempts . as it would crash, and have to be reconnected and the process repeated . You couldnt run any software off it for an extended period (1 hr+) either . It was an intermitent fault which didn't seem to be caused by any factors like workload, amount on flash, computer (mostly all new xp's but even older), or time .

I lived with it until yesterday at a conference where I not only lost some important work because of it, when I tried to save to the flash, or move to it, it not only lost connection but even crashed the computer I was on .

A chorus of IT professionals (20) said "Take it back its crap" . I agreed .
It was unusable .

Anyway I cleared most of my stuff off it, and it corrupted the last few files so I couldn't move them . (moving the stuff off took at least 40 minutes on XP2 because of disconnects) .

So I went back with box, invoice and asked for another one .

Guy didn't believe me and plugged it in, i asked him to delete the stuff that was left as I couldn't . he did .

Then he said here was nothing wrong with it and wouldn't give me a replacement .

Man I started getting steamed up, I told him that I hadnt come in because I was bored, i wasn't taking back a drive that had an intermittant fault, i wasn't going to accept this and wanted to speak to the manager .

Surly female arrives, guy said to her "nothing wrong", I said I wasn't going to accept it . I asked him if he was calling me a liar, he mumbled and I said it had a lifetime warrentee and I wanted a replacement . After some hostile words the woman reluctantly gave me one with as much bad grace as she could muster and I left .

It was a most unplesant experience I have ever had in any shop where I was basically accused of lying . W . T . F did they think? That I had nothing else to do but bring in a perfectly good drive and ask for another one?

Anyway to hell with them, sure they sold me some good stuff but with customer relations that sucked over a $100 flash drive they have lost a customer permantly and I will NEVER recommend them again .

If I hadn't stood my ground, or didn't know my rights, or was unfamilier with computers they would have not replaced the faulty drive .
They refused to replace it until I raised the stakes . People afterwards said I did the right thing .

BTW their name is DragonPC, screw them .

(btw replacement drive works perfectly, so its not me )

407710 2005-11-26 01:21:00 They are probably going to loose more than one customer...... Dannz (1668)
407711 2005-11-26 03:29:00 Dragon are well known for their crap service. One of the reasons they're so incredibly cheap I guess. ninja (1671)

Thanks for posting that. One of my friends at chch uni always buys his stuff through them & was trying to get me to switch from ascent. I'll stick with the good service ascent have provided every time I needed help.

407713 2005-11-26 04:16:00 I would have tested it a bit more than that if a customer told me it was intermittent.
But maybe cause it was intermitent and he managed to delete the files on his first attempt?

As for "Lifetime" - I hope you know that means lifetime of the product - not your lifetime.
For instance Legend Flash Ram is Lifetime - meaning 3 years.
Legend Desktop ram - lifetime - 5 years.
And so on.
Just so you know next time and aren't expecting totally ages on the warranty...

407714 2005-11-26 05:09:00 Everyone I know that has purchased from Dragon (inckuding myself) has had problems. Particularly when trying to return products.

I ordered RAM from them and they shipped half what I ordered and denied it for some time.

A mate spent 6 months trying to fight a replacement HDD out of them.

407715 2005-11-26 05:36:00 I was just about to buy a CD/DVD drive from them, now I won't. zqwerty (97)

407717 2005-11-26 09:12:00 PC tec the thing that got me is that "testing " it did nothing to show what was wrong . The mere fact that I made a trip into town to return a product that wasn't working to my satisfaction should have said to him "be nice and give another one" .

For a mere $100 drive he lost a customer who had spent $1000's would have spent $1000's in the future and all the good will I had along with it .

I expect my word to be taken as legimate on a topic like this, there was obviously nothing he could do to fix it, to say there is nothing wrong with it is to call me a liar, to call my complaint a lie . End of argument .

That is where their customer relations sucked .
