2008-06-17 10:07:00 | At the moment(fingers crossed) with print server router out of the mix, everything is fine. When I connect print server to network, the printer light on router stays lit(no blinking at all) but no internet access via router(which is not a biggie as there are two network points in the room - but is probably part of the problem) and can only print if laptop is plugged into back of print server. Can't access printer via other network connections. Sorry, had a small panic attack after being pleased with myself for uploading images, started wondering what info was actualy in the screenshots. Have canceled credit cards and gone into witness protection program. :waughh:

2008-06-17 10:15:00 | Sorry. Didn't read all of your post properly. Gateway is 192.168.8.2 This is what I get when print server is disconnected and I'm connecting by wireless using my laptop.

2008-06-18 00:57:00 | Okay the uncertain Point I have is where is the laptop getting the address of 192.168.8.2. I looked at the DSE router that you said you have and by default its gateway address is 192.168.0.1, which is what you mentioned in post Number 3. So thats what I will work from. Now I set up a Dlink 704P (Basically Same router, just doesn't have a USB only LPT1) out in the workshop that I have here on my LAN which is connected Via a TP-Link Router from the Office inside. I changed the IP address on the 704P in the workshop to match the IP range on the Router inside and it worked perfectly. Connected a printer to it and set it up, worked fine also. Here's what you do - Use the Router as a switch - That's what you should have brought, not another router. Reset the Dlink router back to its defaults - press the reset button for about 10 seconds, unplug it then plug it back in. On the DSE & Dlink 704 router you have 4 ports 1-4 and the WAN port, from any one of the 4 ports on the DSE router run the cable to port Number 1 on the Dlink router. NOT the WAN port. Connect the Laptop to the Dlink Router Port number 2 and turn on the laptop. From the Laptop open a browser, type in http://192.168.0.1 Press enter, log into the Dlink Router(default address), if you get the DSE router, disconnect it. Once in the Dlink Router,From the Home Tab, click the LAN button and in the IP address change that to 192.168.0.150, then go to the DHCP Button, and select Disable DHCP. Save the settings, now reboot the laptop, with all leads plugged in from the DSE to the Dlink you should now be on the Internet. ( as long as the laptop is set to obtain automatically) Now the printer - Download The Manual (dl1u.savefile.com) follow the instruction through, where it says the port address, change that to 192.168.0.150 that's the one you gave it before. You can use the WAN port as well on the Dlink from the DSE router to connect - Instructions below, BUT when I tried it their way I could see the Internet, but No LAN or printer. From D-Link - If you want to use it as second router: In this case you need to connect a network cable from DSL-router to the WAN port of the DI-router. Make sure you are getting a link light on WAN port of DI-router. Connect your computers to one of the LAN ports of DI-router or wirelessly (if your DI-router supports wireless). Set the WAN port of the DI-router to 'Dynamic IP (DHCP)' option (it is router's default setting. Note: if your DSL-router uses 192.168.0.x addresses on LAN, you need to change the IP address of DI-router under HOME > LAN from default 192.168.0.1 to something else. Change it to 192.168.2.1. Apply the settings and reboot your computer. As mentioned, the setup above is exactly what I did and it worked perfectly. (apart from the first address, my router is 192.168.1.1 not 192.168.0.1) IF it still doesn't work then you may need a tech to have a look at it, as without actually seeing the whole setup I cant offer any more suggestions, - maybe some one else can ?

2008-06-18 01:17:00 | Thanks wainuitech. Will give that a try tonight. I can basically follow what you said, so heres hoping. :thanks | bones (10257) | |
2008-06-18 01:28:00 | Cool - Where i mention logging into the Dlink Router, after restting it back to defaults with the reset button, the buttons/settings you want are in your own pictures 2 & 3. Important thing I found DONT use the WAN port on the Dlink.

2008-06-18 10:34:00 | :banana Thanks a million wainuitech. I followed your instructions(sort of), and I'm on the way to getting things how I want. 192.168.8.2 is the IP for the DLink router downstairs.(For which I have now found the manual and username/password). I changed the 704 to 192.168.8.150, did the rest of what you said and printed a test page from my laptop via wireless to laser in study. Not totally sure on this bit, have set printer to share so on other pc's do I look for a network printer or do I go thru the installation as in the PDF link you gave me? Also have found a setting in the wireless config for adding a DNS server address(at the moment there is no entry), if I did this wife could go to auto settings on her laptop and have no worries about which network she is on? I'm the only one with printer access at the moment but over the next few days will try to add others(wife is remote accessed to school network doing reports now, so would pay not to interupt that). Once again a big thank you. (Can't find button on this page to send you a box of speights ;) )

2008-06-18 22:05:00 | Well i spose as long as its working it doesn't matter how it was done  Regarding the Printer - If its connected to a PC, then you go into the printer folder, start/Printers & faxes, right click the printer / Sharing, then tick " share" - on the other PC's to locate it, open the Printer folder, Top Left - "Add A printer" - follow the wizard through but select "Networked Printer-----" hopefully it will locate the the printer, and automatically drag the required drivers across . If the printer is connected to the Router, then try the instructions in the PDF . This may have taken a while, but it's hard when you cant actually see the setup, if a person is actually in front of the setup, they can see exactly whats going on, only takes one small item thats not set to defaults and its :waughh: Can't find button on this page to send you a box of speights Mmmmmmmmm Speights <Press Here ( . speights . co . nz/Splash . aspx" target="_blank">www . speights . co . nz) :) to send speights>

2008-06-18 22:40:00 | Yes, I had a wee think this morning after the euphoria had died away and realised that my pc would have to be on for others to share so will just do the PDF setup as I did, for them. Thanks for your patience, I know what you mean about long distance fixing, interpreting what someone has written can be hard when you can't see what they can, my pictures seemed to make a difference and got the ball rolling. Cheers
