The mini DVD's are expensive to buy and some models only use write once disks, others can use RW or RAM disks, the RAM being able to be overwritten up to 100,000 times. Advantages of DVD media were that the recorder will find blank space to record onto, however on a disk that is getting full the startup time can be up to 20 secs or more and you may lose that shot whilst the camera finds blank space to record onto. The 8mm DV tape cameras record at a constant compression regardless of whether SP or LP format is selected. For ease of editing the choice was 8mm tape as the DVD models tend to use proprietry compression and storage formats and editing can be difficult. Check your local library the may have the issue on file otherwise I know which doctors waiting room to borrow it from. :D |
