2008-06-15 08:58:00 | have you by any chance overclocked the CPU as well ? it looks like its a driver issue Ok some thing doesn't like SP1. Other possible causes - Last one esp since it only crashes on SP1, try getting the latest drivers for the Modem from the link I poster earlier. • Stop 0x7F messages are typically due to defective, malfunctioning, or failed memory hardware. If you added new hardware recently, remove and replace it to determine if it is causing or contributing to the problem. Run diagnostics software supplied by the system manufacturer to determine if the component has failed. • Running the CPU beyond the rated specification, known as "overclocking," can cause Stop 0x7F or other error messages due to heat buildup. When diagnosing problems on overclocked systems, first restore all clock and bus speed settings to the manufacturer recommended values to determine if this resolves the issues. • Stop 0x7F messages can occur after installing incompatible applications, drivers, or system services.

2008-06-15 09:33:00 | Just a thought- have you got any Norton Products installed as well, I was just looking through MS and found This here (support.microsoft.com) - while some of the Error numbers are different,it is also possible that SP1 if you have Nortons is causing the crash on dial up, since thats the only time its crashing as you mentioned. OR does it crash at other times as well?

2008-06-17 01:13:00 | i have just been looking through my device manager and in network adapters menu, and on the WAN Miniport (SSTP) icon there is a yellow exclamation mark. and this is what the device status says. Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. could this be causing my problem?

2008-07-13 01:32:00 | download the driver package first and save it to your desktop or a flashdrive then it does not matter if you can't get on the net. Collectively this forum knows one hell of a lot and quite a few who write here are full time techs. | gary67 (56) | |
2008-07-13 08:11:00 | my modem goes to connect up to the net and as soon as it connects a blue screen comes As you haven't given us the exact BSOD error I'll take a guess and say the SP overwrote your modem driver. Reinstall it from Acers site.
