678372 2008-06-16 01:14:00 I've burnt Whitcoulls 48x cd-rs at 48x and the errors were so bad the data was unreadable

I've used Mitsubishi 52x at 52x and they worked perfectly

Mitsubishi (which made most Verbatim and some Sony among others) are the best bang for buck. Taiyo Yuden are better quality, but I think they are disproportionately more expensive.

678374 2008-06-16 02:37:00 Mitsubishi ftw.

I nearly always burn CDs at 32x, very rarely have any issues with the burn, generally it's a dodgy CD and the whole burn fails rather than some data being unreadable.

Data DVDs @ 16x and Video @ 8x. I like Sony DVDRs, have a spindle of 50, almost finished them without a single dodgy burn. :)

678375 2008-06-16 06:22:00 This is turning out to be an interesting discussion. Ive learnt something new (to me) today! Woo! rob_on_guitar (4196)
678376 2008-06-16 09:14:00 Hi Rob* Did I miss a mention of which OS you have? For six months I have been using Vista, which permits DVD burning without a third party prog. I simply put a blank in the select "burn files to disc using windows". Sort of made my Nero redundant. Scouse (83)
678377 2008-06-16 10:03:00 Im using Xp, I think, guessing, its my cds that are causing my issues, Ill have to pay a lil extra for the top dogs, which I dont mind doing if it means Ill get a decent result.

I wish you could fit more normal audio tracks on one cd though. Averaging around 18 - 20 tracks per discs as my work player doesnt play mp3s.

Unless you're using some particularly rubbishy disks, it could be the burner. The DVD and CD lasers are separate, one section can be failing while the other still goes OK.
