406466 2005-11-22 17:10:00 Anyone else getting spam with gmail?

Just removed 16 spam items that have arrived over past week.
What has me puzzled is that none of it has got through to to my inbox in OE.
gmail is set up to transfer mail to OE where I read it. All other mail arrives as normal.

How is the transfer from gmail to oe done? I assumed it was internal on my computer. Or does gmail re-send mail to my Ihug account.

At least Ihug does a perfect job filtering it.Never get any from them.

406467 2005-11-22 18:52:00 Hi Jack

I hadn't checked my gmail for 2-3 weeks and I had 654 spam e-mails - no exaggeration. Either Gmail is a hotbed of spam or something I signed up to using my gmail address has onsold my address. I'm not sure but gmail identifies them as spam and drops them into the spam folder so it's no big deal.

406468 2005-11-22 18:54:00 I get spam all the time with gmail - probably doesnt help that i have my email address all over the internet - but gmail filters all of it, i never see it.

Gmail POP only downloads from your inbox not from the spam box, so no you wont download any of it from gmail.

406469 2005-11-22 19:01:00 I have had one of my gmail accounts for well over a year now, and I've used it when signing up for things online - free downloads etc. To date, I've recieved 2 pieces of spam, and that's it. somebody (208)
406470 2005-11-22 19:33:00 I havent had any yet.... I mainly use mine as a signup email, or seldom a contact email address.. though its getting more use lately Myth (110)
406471 2005-11-22 19:52:00 I get heaps of spam, as I expected, but it all goes into the spam folder without even bothering me, the filter is fantastic. Rob99 (151)
406472 2005-11-22 20:02:00 I hadn't even looked in the spam folder. There's 28 in there so I suppose gmail is doing a fair sort of a job. The ones I saw must have been missed by the filter. JJJJJ (528)
406473 2005-11-22 21:13:00 I get none

Zero

but then again, i only got the address so no-one else could assume my user name, and therefore few people have it.

I think the same rules apply as with any addy: Publish it, or give it to the sort of person who would enter it in a search box of a dodgy website, and one should expect a torrent of spam. Keep it close, and only give it out on a need-to basis, and it will last a long time without getting polluted.
