2005-12-05 23:08:00 | As somebody said on radio yesterday "What sort of idiot would pay to see an Irish group perform on the day AFTER St Patrick's Day?". | PaulD (232) | |
2005-12-05 23:18:00 | Both NZ concerts are to be in Auckland. :rolleyes:My mistake then, I thought one was Wellington with the original concert being in Auckland | Myth (110) | |
2005-12-05 23:54:00 | Sorry, didn't realise you had superhuman powers and were able to see events occuring before they even had! Must come in handy with Lotto numbers, eh? Apology accepted . But that has to be one of the worst cases of a 'straw man' argument I have seen in a while . Mis-state my argument and then knock that down . :groan: As for whinging about Trademe, I hate the tax system in New Zealand but that doesn't stop me from paying taxes, does it? Case in point, people whinge on and on about Microsoft / Telecom, etc and still use their products and services . The reality is that you just can't get away from it . I find it ironic that you hint at putting these on TradeMe whilst you are one of their biggest critics on this forum . A bad case of 'situational ethics' . :groan: You and I obviously disagree over this issue, and if you choose to judge me for it, that's your problem not mine . I don't even know you from a bar of soap! I'm not judging you Lo - I merely asked a question and got a heated response . You made the original post hinting that you were putting a couple of tickets on TradeMe . Do you deny that? I can quote it for you if you like . Witness the reaction of genuine U2 fans (here and on TradeMe, one of the users here was banned) who dip out at getting tickets because scalpers bought up so many and are now attempting to profiteer through the likes of TradeMe . So, as per my original question, are you scalper? I'm merely asking a question, and at that stage I haven't had a response . Oh, and enjoy the concert . . . .

2005-12-06 10:38:00 | Mis-state your argument? Have I put the tickets on Trademe or not? Is scalping illegal in New Zealand? As for "situational ethics" I find it ironic that there is a lack of comment from some about the recent thread about downloading porn from newsgroups, but others are surprisingly vigilant in what appears to be not only a legal activity, but also one which when compared with pornography, has less of an impact on society as a whole . I also note you have overlooked my comment regarding others who have put more heat on Microsoft and Telecom and yet continue to use Microsoft and Telecom products . Simply put, while I have a problem with Trademe, there is no other alternative which is better suited for a New Zealand context . However, I do use ebay and Amazon . com as alternatives to Trademe where possible . As to your original question of whether or not I am a scalper - no, I'm not . I haven't sold these tickets for a profit so don't think you can fairly apply that term to me . I still find the fact that you imply I can't be a "genuine U2 fan" (whatever that means . . . ) quite bizarre . I think you'll find that the two aren't mutually exclusive . i . e . you can be a fan and still have no issue selling tickets at a profit . To be honest, I don't see a problem with tickets being on-sold for a profit - I'd like to understand your point of view a bit more . If I could sell these for a profit, then why should I not if it's not illegal? Certainly you could be creative with a Trademe auction and sell a CD with free U2 tickets - I can't see where this could be considered "scalping" from a legal perspective . And thanks, I intend on enjoying the concert . Lo .

2005-12-06 20:02:00 | As to your original question of whether or not I am a scalper - no, I'm not. Thanks Lo. That's all I wanted to hear. Why do I detest scalping? Much like I said earlier - genuine(*see below) fans miss out and have to pay exorbitant prices if they want to go, due to the greed of scalpers (per your post, this excludes you). Have a read of the questions on the U2 TradeMe auctions and that should give you some insight as to how some of the fans that missed out are feeling. I don't deny anyone making money - it's what we all need to do but there comes a point when money is not the answer, and there are situations where making money is not the goal..... *Genuine fans? I agree with your comments and I think you misunderstood my post. I wasn't questioning your level of fan-ness (if that is a word but I think you get my point), I was using the word to describe the angry fans who missed out. But I do question whether a scalper is a genuine fan, and IMO rightly so. If you are going to put them up for sale then be aware that if they aren't in your possession then you can't list them on TradeMe until they are, secondly the IRD regularly keep an eye out for people trying to make a quick buck (if you buy something with the intention of re-selling it at a profit, then the gain is taxable - think Vector shares, 7's etc), thirdly the IRD have tabs on the activities of the traders on TradeMe, also there have been a number of questions on TradeMe auctions regarding the tickets becoming null and void if the promoters detect that a holder's ticket has been 'scalped', and lastly offering them attached to a paper clip or a CD or offering an ostensible excuse as to why you can't go won't work - it's merely symantics that people see through. So if you are going to sell them, then just be honest about it. It should be a good concert, so as I said earlier, enjoy! A

My idea of hell is being jamed into a large crowd of screaming spectators. Being unable to hear the words and knowing that even if I could hear them I would't understand them. |
