679491 2008-06-18 22:58:00 Ghost 2003 messed up 2 -3 times on SATA HDD machines with Gigabyte motherboards; otherwise it's a good little program.

Get 8.5.

Poor old Peter Norton, he gets all the blame for the messes Symantec have wrought both with his products, and others like Ghost. :)

The only thing he did wrong was to sell out.

However, I have always found Ghost 2002 to work well, never any problems, and I use it every week for cloning (IDE) HDD as backup. I still have the original NZ Ghost on floppy somewhere........

679498 2008-06-19 12:44:00 I have Acronis 11 & Ghost 12.
Acronis 11 is near perfect.
Ghost 12 is bloated software. The boot disk takes ages to load and only restores. You can not backup with the boot disk.
Acronis boot disk contains the complete program so you can backup from Dos (Linux actually). This means that if you have to reinstall a dead system & have no backup, you can make an Image of the existing dead system and later mount it as a drive to extract any files which you require for your new installation. (check it for Virus first).
Acronis also costs half as much.
As for cloning a partition. Just make a partition the same size & restore an image into it.
