2005-12-02 08:25:00 | bit torrent is best for people who have big files and want to get them out to many people with out having a big data load on there server . say I make a video and its 160MB . 10000 people down load it . . . . thats 1600000MB = 1600GB = 1 . 6TB == lots of data if I set up a torrent for it then the total data I have to send becomes as small as 500MB or so . now think what this can do for a linux distro . . . . . . . 3CDs * 800MB * 100000 downloads = crap loads . that was the design for bit torrent . the result of BT was that people could share all kinds of copyrighted stuff and the RIAA/Goverment couldent track them . . bittorrent . com/introduction . html" target="_blank">www . bittorrent . com When your are in an International hub with only 5000 users and over a 800TB shared, and then you are connected to 5 similar hubs simontaneously (amount 4PB) maxing out you 2MB connection constantly, then try telling me BT is better lol, a lot better than the 50,000 lechers to 100 seeders crap you get on the popular torrent (exaggerated a bit) . I doubt you have given DC a good go, if you had you would not be using BT . I have certainly used BT extensively, and I rate DC hubs better . Only down side of DC++ hubs is it is not a leech network like BT so you often need 100gig shared of REAL um stuff, to get in the and stay in the hub .

You type the name into a "Search" dialogue box you clicked on with your mouse and then click on the result with you mouse. There are command lines but you certainly don't need to use them. |

2005-12-02 08:44:00 | Just out of curiosity, what is "Bit Torrent" . I see Jen objected to it in another thread so it's probably unethical . The part I was objecting to was the suggestion that you could download Norton Ghost via bittorrent rather than buy it . . . I use torrents all the time to grab my Linux stuff . :)

2005-12-02 11:28:00 | I download alot of hong kong dramas using bit comet. Now im in hk im on a 1.5mbps.I download about 5 files at a time.Averaging at about 150kbps altogether..I find bit comet slow when downloading or maybe there's not enough seed.Anyway..My dad's upgrading to a 10mbps at the end of the month.I wonder if it makes a difference.Downloading files off www.download.com is at 300kbps How does the calculating work? Im on 56k at home downloading at around 5kbps 256k downloading is around 10kbps How do you calculate what the average download speed of the connection which you are running?

2005-12-03 06:36:00 | James I have had a crack using bitlord, reasonable success to date, depending what your looking for and seems stable enough. I'd give it a go. The other I use is E-mule.
