| 679133 | 2008-06-17 04:51:00 | What else is on this laptop? ie: infra-red / wireless / bluetooth etc? Could be one of these (probably irda). Nothing in device manager (click on all the entries / +'s) have an X beside them do they? There's more than one A10 (like 7 with A10 on the Toshiba site, is this a Toshiba Satellite)?? If it is, does it have anything after A10 (like S100/1001 etc)?? And WHICH driver did you install? |

| 679134 | 2008-06-18 01:36:00 | Hi, sorry, we had internet connection problems last night (not to do with the laptop) but all go again now. The laptop definitely does not have bluetooth and I can find nothing to suggest it has infra-red/wireless. The previous owners did have a wireless card in it but that was removed beofre I got the laptop. I have checked everything in the device manager and nothing has a cross or any other indicators to say anything is wrong there. Everything appears to working normally. I have also finally found the model number: It is a Toshiba Satellite A10 - model PSA10A - 012NHP The driver I currently have installed is this one tinyurl.com However now that I have the correct model number I will try and find a different one and hope that works better. I am still really baffled as to why there is no Ports tree in the device manager, as surely that would tell me if something else was using the port? I did briefly try to get into the Bios page by pressing F2 and also F12 (I'm not sure which if either is correct) as it restarted but neither one worked. Not that I would really know what to do in there, but figured I might as well look anyway. |

| 679135 | 2008-06-18 02:10:00 | I think you've got the wrong drivers for the modem These are the direct links below Try these if the modem is V92 (www.isd.toshiba.com.au 1658@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccccadeeeeifjkfcefecekfdffhdfgi.0&strUrl=http://203.56.127.6/driver_download/Public/WinXP/A10ModemV92XP.exe&driver_name=A10ModemV92XP.exe&oid=294842) 1.87MB Or These if its V90 (www.isd.toshiba.com.au 1658@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccccadeeeeifjkfcefecekfdffhdfgi.0&strUrl=http://203.56.127.6/driver_download/Public/WinXP/A10ModemV90XP.exe&driver_name=A10ModemV90XP.exe&oid=294841) 1.26 MB Theyre bigger than the link you gave. These drivers are here (http://www.toshiba.com.au/) To get here, click on products / mobile computing in the menu / support Download centre Notebooks / satellite / scroll down to A10 (PSA10A) Check to see whether that modem is V92 or V90 first |

| 679136 | 2008-06-18 20:45:00 | I too faced the same problem, Resorts taken by me were: 1 . Complete Uninstall / Reinstall of the Drivers of the modems thrice without any help . 2 . Remove modems from Device Manager & recheck them in Query modem (Modem properties advanced tab) with success from modem but no success while dialing . 3 . Physically remove the modems and retest them again by putting them back in different PCI Slots without any success . I totally gave up but what came to my mind was the last resort which I did not want to but anyway did that . 4 . System Restore to a previous point did the trick . Now everything works well . Its purely a software related issue having nothing to do with the hardware . Anyways somewhere I read but failed to try if this suits you: Go to My computer >> control Panel >> Phone & Modem Options >> Modems TAB >> Select your Modem >> Properties Button >> Advanced Tab >> Advanced Port Settings Button >> Com Port Number . Tweak this value to somthing higher or lower than configured in the following manner to release the Com Port . If it is Com17 >> set it to COM15 or Com19 (if the number is ODD, select a higher / lower ODD Number) If it is Com18 >> set it to COM16 or Com20 (if the number is EVEN, select a higher / lower EVEN Number) A higher Number setting should help more because the lower ones would probably have been used up resulting in a conflict . Reboot to make things rock solid . I repeat that I have not tried the above because I got out of my problem earlier without trying the above solution but I think it should help, in case you do not have a restore point (just in case you turned Off system restore monitoring on your system Drive) . Ravi . |
