409311 2005-12-01 21:05:00 I D/L a file the other day that had 64 seeds, it was 200mb and on my 1mb connection it was D/L at between 110/120kbps. It took about 35 mins to D/L.

409314 2005-12-02 01:12:00 So does being throttled back to dial up speeds after downloading a single torrent file of 700Mb and exceeding the 1Gb limit for the month (and there is still 3 weeks left of the month). user (1404)
409315 2005-12-02 01:41:00 What are seeds?
Generally. something small from which larger things grow.
In arboculture, "From little acorns do mighty oaks grow". ;)

In computing, you can set a seed for a pseudorandom generator.

In this conrtext, a small piece of information which can enable (or cause) the transfer of a lot of information.

409317 2005-12-02 07:28:00 Sounds a bit complicated to me.
Easier to buy what you want
At least now I know

Actually it is very easy. Download a BT client i.e bitcomet or Azures and install. Go to a torrent site, download the torrent link to the software you require (want) and away you go.

However I do not believe BT is the best P2P network, I find good international DC hubs a lot better. I know there are many that will disagree, so I suppose its what works best for you.

409318 2005-12-02 07:55:00 I find DC++ to be a pain in the ass - it seems to be based on an IRC type thing that lets you type commands to download stuff off other users Greven (91)
409319 2005-12-02 08:11:00 bit torrent is best for people who have big files and want to get them out to many people with out having a big data load on there server .

say I make a video and its 160MB .
10000 people down load it . . . .

thats 1600000MB = 1600GB = 1 . 6TB == lots of data

if I set up a torrent for it then the total data I have to send becomes as small as 500MB or so .

now think what this can do for a linux distro . . . . . . .
3CDs * 800MB * 100000 downloads = crap loads .

that was the design for bit torrent .

the result of BT was that people could share all kinds of copyrighted stuff and the RIAA/Goverment couldent track them .
