2008-06-21 03:58:00 | Hi All, My sister went into her folder on out External HDD, and found this: i80.photobucket.com Can anyone shine a light as to what has happened? I tihnk it may have something to do with a slight power problem we had a couple fo days ago, when we suddenly lost power to the computer and once power was restored, I had to unplug the HDD in order to get it to be recognized on the computer. However, the strangest thing is that the HDD is recognising this folder as being 58.5gb. Its not the only folder with this problem. All up theres around 6-7 folder that are all showing the same problem, and all showing a stupidly high amount fo GB's being taken up. however, when added together, they apparently make nearly a TB of Data, yet the 256gb HDD isn't saying its full and in fact has 80 odd GB's free. Also, I cannot delete any of these folder. Can anyone be of any help? Thanks, Matthew

2008-06-21 04:09:00 | Do you have a Linux CD such as ubuntu if so run linux from the cd do not install it to the hdd and see if any data can be recovered that way or if it is readable | gary67 (56) | |
2008-06-21 04:26:00 | I got an Ubuntu CD a few days ago, but for no apparent reason I just can't get it to work at all. | matthewmw64 (13888) | |
2008-06-21 04:28:00 | You might need to go into the bios pressing f8 or delete or whatever button you are told to press to enter the bios and change the boot order to boot from CD first not hdd | gary67 (56) | |
2008-06-21 04:50:00 | Well, I'm in Ubuntu now. Its still showing the files as being corrupted. | matthewmw64 (13888) | |
2008-06-21 04:52:00 | Not sounding good then are you able to copy them to another device and then see if they are still corrupted? If not try doing a Hijack this scan. Download it to the hard drive put it into a folder on the desktop then install it do scan and save a log then post the log here for someone to look at

| 680752 | 2008-06-21 05:09:00 | I;m somewhat hesitant to move any fo the corrupted files to the Internal HDD, since they seem undeletable. Ill just run a HJT! scan. Here it is: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 4:24:48 p.m., on 21/06/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\brss01a.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\pptd40nt.exe C:\Program Files\Brother\ControlCenter2\brctrcen.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\Dit.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\2.bin\mwsoemon.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\PowerISO\PWRISOVM.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\AluSchedulerSvc.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Brmfrmps.exe C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\2.bin\m3IMPipe.exe C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe C:\Program Files\CDBurnerXP\NMSAccessU.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\UAService7.exe C:\WINDOWS\DitExp.exe C:\Program Files\FinePixViewer\QuickDCF.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\wkcalrem.exe C:\Program Files\Brother\Brmfcmon\BrMfcWnd.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 -
