680713 2008-06-21 02:28:00 Help needed please.
I have bought a Pioneer DVR-212 DVD Writer to replace my older DVD Rom drive.I bought this card to run the pioneer off,as I don't have any spare sata ports left on the motherboard. But I now think it is just for raiding hard drives, as the Pioneer is not to be seen in Windows after fitting it this morning. And I tried loading the drivers for the card but it wouldn't install them, coming up with error.

Would I be correct in that?Or is there some way to get this thing going?

And then is this the item I need to get the Pioneer running?

Suggestions please.

680714 2008-06-21 03:14:00 Does the SATA card come with any setup utility that runs when you start the computer? after the POST comes up?

What error do you get when installing the drivers? have you tried downloading new drivers? www.st-lab.com

In any event the the 2nd product linked will not work, it's for IDE drives to convert them to SATA - you would want SATA to IDE

680715 2008-06-21 04:17:00 Reading the instructions for the card (RTFM ;)), it would appear that you may have the wrong card (RAID only?), plus the jumpers on the card set it to 'see' the external SATA ports only (need to change them first), plus you need to make a floppy disk (or flash drive?) to install the drivers (from a prog on the CD).
Hope this helps :)

The jumpers on the card are preset for the internal ports according to what I read :)
On boot up it does come up with a screen showing the Pioneer drive.I understand that's the screen to go into to set up the raid options.I was hoping to load the drivers and see if it would see the Pioneer, but now I'm not sure it's the right card!!
And Agent I see what you mean about sata to ide. Downing the drivers now.
And I must mention the I've still got one Sony IDE optical drive I want to keep going!!
So I would like a card to give me two options for sata, as I will have to replace the Sony sometime.
So does this look like the card I need?

680717 2008-06-21 05:10:00 Well, if the Pioneer drive is detected on boot then you should be fine - hardware wise.

Just got to make windows work with it!

Why don't you just use the old drive with the IDE->SATA Adaptor? Then you can use both optical drives on both SATA ports on the new card

680718 2008-06-21 10:41:00 Well I persisted and finally got the drivers installed .......thanks for the link Agent. And there was drive G showing again.
On boot up now there is a screen shows for a little while showing the Pioneer drive, then on to the next screen with all the guff and boot from cd, then Windows starts. So guess I can live with that.
Thanks again.

680719 2008-06-21 13:57:00 When the message comes up at startup about the Pioneer drive, there should be a prompt to enter the RAID config you utility if you press a certain key combination. It's probably something like Ctrl+J

There you might be able to make the message stay on screen for a shorter time or even to turn it off. That might help speed things up a little

680720 2008-06-21 21:28:00 Thanks Agent. You are correct, according to the manual re the Ctrl+J. So might try that.
