680577 2008-06-20 06:39:00 Hi All,

I am typing into a Word Document & have got up to 70kb. In the same folder is another file titled the same. It has a note with it "7jst in case.doc. This has 40kb in it & IS a partial copy of the one I am working on.

I did not knowingly set this up like this but think it is a good idea. But... Now it will not progress beyong the 40kb.

Any idea how it came about in the first place? And how do I get it to continue? Thanks PJ

680578 2008-06-20 07:45:00 What do you mean by it has a "note with it"? Is that inside the word document? Are you sure you didn't go make a second copy of it? It doesn't have a ~ (tilde) in front of the file name?

Word documents with the ~ are temporary files that Word creates when you are working on a document; they are in case your original document crashes while you are working on it and allows Word to recover the crashed document. They normally are removed by Word when you close the original file but sometimes they get left behind.

680579 2008-06-20 08:30:00 Jen...There is NO tilde in front of it. I know what you mean I have seen what you said..

It looks like this :- Ixxxxxxxr Dxxxxd Book 7jst in case.doc
Microsofr Word Document.

It is beside a word page, with a large W at the top left. Thr top right corner of the page is turned down. The page is lined,

The icon for the document I am working on is different & is the full length.

Does that all make any sense to you> PJ

680580 2008-06-20 11:18:00 Do you have auto save enabled? the_bogan (9949)
680581 2008-06-20 11:26:00 After saving, have you refreshed (press F5) the Explorer window? jwil1 (65)
680582 2008-06-20 21:08:00 Possibly something to do with the save options - see under Tools | Options Save tab that there are some additional options for saving the document. Does your extra document have a wbk extension? If so this indicates the "Always create backup copy" option is in use. However, Im not sure why the file size would be limited.

Fast Saves saves only changes to the document so I believe you need to turn this off and do a standard save to fully save the document.
