411832 2005-12-11 19:13:00 How can Pack & Save say that when they have adverts showing on TV in peak viewing times. A bit of hypocrisy.

Trevor :)

411833 2005-12-11 19:21:00 EAch time they've done the checks Countdown in Dunedin has come out cheapest supermarket in NZ.
And interestingly I have switched from shopping at Pak n Save where I would spend around $200 - $240 per fortnight.
I now do online shopping with Woolworths and have yet to spend more than $201.
And I buy more or less the same stuff each time too.

411834 2005-12-12 05:13:00 Easy to answer why you probably spend less though.
No products to temp you on the ends of the aisles, not strolling past and see something you didn't come for but you pick it up and put it in the trolley anyway.

And i'd guess you get a running total everytime you add something to the online cart.

I knew someone would say that.
The first time I used it I entered everything off my last Pak n Save list - came out slightly cheaper.
Anyway I tend to not buy the junk at the ed of the aisles - I like to cook and therefore can't stand 99% of that packaged stuff.
Don't buy lollies or baking or any of that kind of thing.
One reason it probably works for me though is that I don't buy any meat from supermarkets.

You only spend $200 a fortnight???

I spend at least twice that... and there's usually only me, don't eat cakes/sweets/no booze/no 'ready made' meals.

I take it that you're really really slim!

By increasing sales they can keep prices lower.

Operating wth small margins, they need high turnover so advertising is essential.

Not hypocrisy, just good business sense.
