411099 2005-12-08 09:22:00 I've got this door bell/chime which has a remote speaker, which makes a really naff tone. Does anyone know if it's able to be changed?

It's an Arlec brand, model number/s on the back of the speaker unit DC180 and SC0704.

We'd like something a little more entertaining from the sound, eg a Tarzan howl or something. :D

411100 2005-12-09 09:19:00 I doubt you can change it Greg, it will probably be hard coded/wired into the ringer, especially if it was a cheapy and Arlec usually are.

There are some better units out there but I haven't seen anything other than the V8 ad for a long time. Try looking through Jaycar's website, they often have novelties like that.

Cheers

Edit Jaycar do a good V8 kit but it is pricy at $95.95

Choice of 2 chimes - Westminster & Big Ben?
(Just checked my model no).
Yes, the sounds aren't the greatest, but I do remember getting change from $25.
For that price you make your own Tarzan howls.

411102 2005-12-09 18:05:00 On another board there is a thread about a guy who custom built a door chine that played WAV files. I wonder if you took a cheap mp3 player, and gave it some speakers and a bit of wiring if you could make a door chime that played any sort of music you wanted... it would be a great product, I havn't seen on yet. netchicken (4843)

411104 2005-12-11 02:09:00 You could build your own using a PicAxe 8M processor. It comes with a number of "tunes" programmed into it, including Jingle Bells :D. But you can download other tunes(even cellphone ring tunes) or enter your own. Graham L (2)
