The Good Alice in Chains Soundgarden Pantera 3 killer bands The Bad Metallica sacrificed the metal for the mainstream A scabby little junkie was hailed as a rock god, Just goes to show that lack of talent is no barrier As for radio music, Such as Vengaboys, never heard them, The radio plays the worst music in order to get you to listen to their adverts, They are after the stupid people . . . . . |

No, the problem is not so much over engineering, but lack of engineers who can work on one take and get a good sound, something that is so often needed with lo budget acts. OK.. I'm a sound enginer, so i am biased, but if the band plays well, the venue/studio is good, the gear is good, and it still sounds like crap, then someone isn't doing thier job well. If you want spontaneity, go for live recordings, and yes, there are those of us who still do them. But would the Beatles have been the Beatles without the genius of George Martin? |

| 412065 | 2005-12-13 13:36:00 | I was brought up with different sort of music/genres... My High School days were mostly pop songs...Now I really love Heavy Metal...Heavy Drum n Bass...some Ragga gon Reggae...something Gospel...something from 50s, 60s, 70s....80s... So my opinion:> Music today is neither tripe or not...it depends on who listens to it...moods may vary.... |

A knocking internal cumbustion engine is music if someone likes that sort of thing. And Ministry did a fine job of using engine noizes in the "Jesus built my hotrod" classic, a song that drives just like drag racing :D A scabby little junkie was hailed as a rock god, Just goes to show that lack of talent is no barrier :groan: not that twit from Velvet Revolver? |

| 412068 | 2005-12-13 21:09:00 | Nope, the Twit from Nirvana, Kurt "I have stomach pains" Cocaine.....O.. you didn't mention "dead" in your description, allthough i generally go with the therie that all junkies are dead anyway, the fact that some still breath is just splitting hairs.... Personally i liked Nirvana. When "Sounds like teen spirit" was played on the tele during an era where nothing but dribbly pop and early electronica was taking over, it was a pleasure to see something based on angsty guitar music making it to the mainstream. I thought to myself, "Yes, there is hope afterall" Wheels and squeels........... Atleast Kurt had the decancy to get killed before he turned into a dribbling hasbeen like so many that people queue to see. And yes i did say killed, not suicide, because the gun that spread his brain cells all over the room was found in the lefthanded mans right hand, and of course there was 4 times more herion in his bloodstrem than anyone of human decent could survive, yet he was assumed to have been able to pull a gun on himself....... Like it or not, Nirvana broke ground, was it not for them, or someone else that was needed to do what they did, we might have nothing but electronica to amuse us from the mass media. |

| 412069 | 2005-12-13 21:16:00 | Heh? I would hardly consider garage music put through a high gloss recording process new ground, At the end of the day he made more jangly pop music. the fact that it became a mainstream fad for 3 weeks doesn't give it creedence. As for the 4x the amount to kill, Everyone has different tolerences, wether it be alchohol, hard drugs or a hot curry. Hell, I saw a mate skull a jar of GBH in Sydney, bang, Instant coma. Far more then what was required to kill the guy, He was out of the coma 10 days later.... |

I think the truth lays somewhere in the middle, and maybe its just a CHCH thing, but when i went and saw pub covers bands 20 years back on the wet coast, they were playing Rolling Stones covers etc. These days, in CHCH they play Nirvana etc.... They made thier mark in R&R history. As for the 4x the amount to kill, Everyone has different tolerences, wether it be alchohol, hard drugs or a hot curry. Hell, I saw a mate skull a jar of GBH in Sydney, bang, Instant coma. Far more then what was required to kill the guy, He was out of the coma 10 days later....Even with 4x lethal being debated, its still hard to pull the trigger on oneself whilst in a coma, and the handwritten suicide note was written by someone whose handwriting didn't match Kurts Who would now know who Courtney Love is, if she wasn't then the wife of freshly "suicided" Kurt Cobain? |
