Probably right Met, Louis Armstrong would've learned a lot from Iron Maidens Powerslave, and even possibly learnt how to play trumpet :waughh: |

Its as bad as this nonsence that no one can touch Jimmy Hendrix, The man was a huge talent, great in his day and blazed a path into uncharted territory, but since then there have been many greater talents that have taken the art far far beyond his abilities..... |

| 412013 | 2005-12-12 12:26:00 | I'm not saying all music today is crap. I have a strong dislike for hip-hop, especially NZ hiphop - i find it ironic considering New Zealands living conditions and the history behind hip-hop/ghetto/black music. Theres some quite good music today, if you ignore some of that 'indie' crap. Maiden is cool, but you can't deny what the beatles did for music in general. | DangerousDave (697) | ||
| 412014 | 2005-12-12 12:28:00 | Oh boy, have you set the horses loose. I have a high tolerance for music but it doesn't include: 1/Rap. any kind. If I ever met eminem I would probably hit him. 2/Smarmy modern pop bull**** produced by money-hungry, artist-abusing record labels like SonyBMG. 3/1970s disco. Any sort. But thats a moot point. Its hardly music of today, lol. 4/Boy bands eg. Westside etc. Any sort. 5/Black eyed Peas. 6/Anyone who has won a popular tv popstar show. 7/Anything to do with polkas. 8/Love torn idiots releasing their sugary pseudo-angst on an unsuspecting public. Its a form of torture. 9/Silly women waving their booties alot on vids and singing/talking inane crapola. (No offence to women in general =P) 10/Whiney English prats like Coldplay. They sound like they have an eternal cold whilst complaining alot. Music, to me, is about hard rythms, ear-bleeding guitar musicianship and a rather rebellious attitude. Mostly. Other good music has its place also. Anything that requires musical skill usually gets my ear. In general, I would say that 90% odd of new music is unpalatable. Of course, thats just my opinion. Feel free to disregard. |

| 412016 | 2005-12-12 18:45:00 | But the point is still valid - Green Day can actually sing, whereas some modern artists can't. But I think most of today's music is music in every sense, except for aweful rap songs (not ALL are awful) and those chicky Destiny's Child-like craps.... Thankyou! :D - I agree |

| 412017 | 2005-12-12 18:46:00 | There's also going to be younger people who want to listen to new stuff only, and older people who have shut of thier minds and hearts to anything outside of what they are already familiar with. Stubborn Oldies :p. Nigels theme seems to have been continued by most people. That this problem has been going on for a long time (but is getting worse?) |

| 412018 | 2005-12-12 18:50:00 | Im thinking popular music peaked in the 70's, with Heavy Metal peaking in the 80's. No way in hell The Beatles could emulate the level of musicianship and technical abilty as displayed on Iron Maidens Powerslave. Ok, surprisingly i agree with you there (Iron Maiden) And if Yngwie Malmsteen was let loose on the average punter....well, it would probally go over their heads and they would go back to elevating Lennon into some sort of mystical god...OMG, he Knows 3 bars and can write a hook...we must worship him...omg, look how he stands completly still on stage and plays simple little pop ditties, he must be a god... Who? As for Greenday, They do well with there limited abilities, I saw them on the River Stage in Brisbane 6 or 7 years ago, was a good show. :D |

| 412019 | 2005-12-12 18:52:00 | most popular music has the staying power of a 14 year old boy, gets overplayed on the radio, so even if you did like the first time by the end of the day you would be sick of it, there are exceptions to every rule. So its not always the artists fault? - it can be the media/radio/tv etc's fault? Coldplay will be around for a while and so will Robbie Williams although not my cup of tea Robbie does actually have talent. As for the two albums I listened today at work were talking heads "stop making sense" and Metallicas "and justice for all" two great albums from great bands that have the staying power of a 60 year old on viagra  Metallicas definately has talent, but i cant comment about the other one (as i have never heard their music) - Like the viagra comment :D |
