412101 2005-12-15 04:58:00 As an octogenerium " if that's how you spell it," I am biased in favour of the older favourites and classics but recently I discovered the lyrics behind a lot of Lennon's music and what I once considered crap I now enjoy this type of lyrical music.Particularly the kind of lyrics that have a philosophical point to stress. Having said that I am driven up the wall by discordant repetative jungle beat stuff which has niether lyrics or constructive melody.
I think a lot of mediocre, untalented , hip gyrating slobs have been promoted by promoters after a quick buck and I think the mass hysteria exibited by so called fans akin to the mass rallies of brainwashed idiots.

That surely is crash & bang taken to extreme. Is the drummer really trying to beat one of his drums to death. I've heard more stirring music at a military funeral. As for the vocalist - lessons seem not to have been learned.

Everyone to their own!!!

This line here:
I think the mass hysteria exibited by so called fans akin to the mass rallies of brainwashed idiots....the complete extension of the word "fan" is "fanatic".....point-match

Everyone to their own!!!I find it facinating seeing how people hear what is outside thier comfort zone, so i put the song (APCs Imagine) on and compared it to what you described.

Granted it's a simple song compared to some, and granted, it starts with a purcusive sound that is a tad drony, but its the lower notes of a piano, which is the major instrument of the song. The drums don't kick in till 30-40 seconds, and when they do it's with snare, kick, and hihat, all used sparingly, -not "one of his drums being beaten to death". Infact it's not even a fast song! Other drums are saved for such standard things as the move into the chorus.
The vocals are quite different to the original, the songs in a different key for starters, but the vocalist is perfectly in tune, so i fail to see what lessons need to be learned.

Whilst i fully except that it isn't your cup of prefered refreshment, to condemn it on false technical review is ... shall i say interesting?

As you said... each to their own! :D

412106 2005-12-17 07:52:00 Thanks for the technical appraisal, a thing I'm not competent enough to give . To be fair to you I listened to the track five consecutive times, 4min 46secs X 5, that's 23min 50secs, in glorious stereo, and must admit the song grows on you . But then so does a boil on the end of ones nose .

Too much like a funereal dirge, definitely not designed to spread a feel-good feeling as I'm sure the original artists intended . However, if you get a lift listening to this go for it .

I won't be listening to any other tracks by APC .

Each to his/her own . . .

This remake of this song wasn't intended to have the feel-good feeling of the original. The "funereal dirge" sound was intened to create a darker song, asking, "why are we still imagining?".

Aha, I sure am getting an education in Kiwi music. Just wonder when this track will get some air time. I listen to many hours of music on local and overseas stations and never heard that one or any other track by APC, have they got a track in the top 100?. Maybe there's a special station which airs "darker" songs. Personally prefer music which gets my toes tapping, just listened to Melinda Scheider belt out "Some Girls", now Conway Twitty and "It's Only Make Believe" followed by Patsy Kline's "Crazy".

The track has had its day here regarding airplay, It got a lot of attention on C4, where one could see a few more clues to the angle they were coming from, scenes of anerexic fashion models and other "beautiful people", starvation, fat gits stuffing down burgers , space exploration, politicians, big cars, starving africans, silly dolls in space helmets, etc . Radio barely touched it .
