412091 2005-12-14 05:50:00 Did you watch the Inxs rockstar show?, Some amazing vocal talent, Jordis had one of the best voices I have ever heard, Though it would probally be rendered generic by the album recording process....

If you can get recordings of her singing Barbera O'riley or The MAn who sold the world then be prepared to get blown away, In fact I think you can watch and listen to the tracks at the official site...Jordis was awesome! In fact there were quite a few really good voices/performances on that show.

Think I found myself a Xmas pressie (www.realgroovy.co.nz) :p

412093 2005-12-14 07:13:00 Music is a rather subjective thing and in any era there will be differing opinions on what is good or bad. I remember many many moons ago going to a concert to see Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Dizzie Gillespy and many others. About half way through the concert a guy named Stan Getz walked on to an empty stage carrying a high stool and an alto sax. He sat on the stool - tucked his legs in and played. It was magic and an instant recognition of exceptional talent. Dally (6292)

412095 2005-12-14 19:04:00 Yes music of today is tripe, you can ask some of the young people today, as someone mentioned in a previous post alot of them prefer musice by the older groups of the 70s and 80s. I have DVDs of concerts by Paul McCartney, The Eagles, Brian Wilson of Beach Boys fame Sting, Fleetwood Mac and look how many young people are in the audience heaps.

412096 2005-12-14 19:05:00 On the subject of tripe, i'd have to say the current state of the NZ, and particually the CHCH metal scene is nothing but.And don't get me wrong, there's some fine metal, but just very little coming out of this country.

Main reasons its tripe.

No drive....
its a big loud noise that does anything but move in any direction. If i played it i my truck, there'd be no danger of me breaking local speed limits, and a higher likelyhood of me just stopping so i could get out and scream.

No originality.
The Metal scene down here is dominated by death metal (dead metal i call it, see above) I've gone into temparary retirement because i've worked with too many of these twits, and can't tell most of them apart without visual clues, same formula for all, huge double kick and guitar that doesn't drive, but just fills the gap with "death roars" for vocals *C*R*A*P* All the instruments are all over the place.. there is no movment in any fixed direction

No individuality tolerated..
Such a highly uniformed cult, particualy surprising for an adult audiance! Everyone here is individuals and just in case they don't know how to do it, cloning the next individual seems to help all the individuals fit in nicely

Now i really don't like rap, just a personal thing, but i found that easier to work with because there was more individuality and suttle variation in the rap scene than the current excuse for a metal one

I'd allways make a point of wearing bright purple at the metal gigs i worked at, i wanted to be sure to be regected by that lot of bloody sheep :D

Hipocracy....
Endless dribble spoken about some character called Satan following the new way and hating Christians and stuff, yet wasn't Satan a character lifted directly from the bible, the document that forms the heart of Christianity? To my mind inverted Christianity is no less Christian than PC "corrective" racism is just inverveted racism, ie racism. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Christianity, just with being Christain not admitting it, and hating Christians for it, it gets pretty twisted..

Reminds me of the mentality of a queer basher who hates queers cause the keep successfully seducing him, and uses that as justification to shag (rape) the bastards. (I met someone like that when in jail - sick puppy)

Then there's the "we must all be individuals" argument that could have been lifted strait from Monty Pythons Life of Brian, except these so called metalers aren't clever enough to be taking the piss...

Satan
What a boring old fart! I mean really, in 200x do we really have to find some fool to follow?

Anyway, i'd gladly work with a true metal band, one that, to oversimplify, is fast rock and roll with strong bass and a dirty driving lead guitar or 3, but not these talentless naughty boys pretending to have something underground and unique by following cloning eachother to obscurity

412097 2005-12-14 19:15:00 You got a good point there personthingy... Mr Wetzyl (362)
412098 2005-12-14 19:28:00 Exceptions to above rant;
Band i've worked with and wont slag off:

8ft Sativa, who are talented and don't fit too neatly in the mold.

Sinate, who grew out of 8ft, (excuse pun) They are bass guitar driven.

Dagon, which is a school kid metal band who dare to use a keyboard, and sound like a horror films metal soundtrack.

If anyone knows of some worthwhile non cliché metal that this country has put out recently, then i'd be keen to know, otherwise i'm just going to write the whole thing off.

412099 2005-12-15 03:55:00 depends if you're talking about the make up covered sluts that shake their barely covered booties all over the tv screen and have their voice "adiologically airbrushed" or something...

I will say, and of course I am biased cos they are my favourite band, System of a down truly rock...

Look at their latest album.. very political... protesting the war, and the media, and bush... done wonderfully with a mix of armenian folk music, blues, rock, metal... kickass...

hehe... all you lackeys will disagree with me tho...
