411991 2005-12-12 06:34:00 Maybe the pressf1 members could help me settle a long running argument between me and the adults i know. :help:

Many of the adults i know think that the music of today is rubbish - quoting one plesant individual "all recent music is talentless tripe". They even say this for bands that have been around for 10 years or more (Greenday for one great example :D) - and these are the people talking that like Bob Dylan and the Carpenters etc. (which me and my friends dont like :p )What about bands that arent hard-core rockers (artists that sing to ballads like John Mayer, Lindsay Lohan. ) The only music (of today) in my opinion that is talentless tripe is that great oxymoron "Rap Music" :D. What do the members of this forum think? - Tripe or not?

411992 2005-12-12 06:40:00 "Todays music is crap" - adults were saying that when the beatles and stones and dylan were new, they were saying it when mozart and beethoven were around and they were probably saying it when ig and ug the cavemen banged rocks together, in twenty years time they will be saying the music of the future is crap unlike the wonderful bands of the past like "atomic kitten" and "back entry boys" or whoever is around these days Morgenmuffel (187)

It sure is, but this time it is different. Although this generation does have it's good bands, there are very few that are AS good as the bands of old. This is demonstrated by the huge numbers of teenagers that prefer the music of their parent's generation - music that would traditionally be considered far too old for them. There are also a lot of bands inspired by the old bands that have a very similar sound to them.

411995 2005-12-12 07:34:00 I think commercial music is getting worse, Granted it has always been craptastic but a decade or two ago real bands were able to get on the charts and have a career, Nowadays all the genre's have been infiltrated by the recording industry and exploited, so no matter what music you make it has to fit the mold or you never get a record deal. No distribution, no promotion, no airplay,...No career.

Change your music to "fit" and if your lucky you get enough sales for a second album, but your part of a manufactured fad and your career is over, If you don't get any sales with your record company molested song then its career over straight away and go find a job so you can pay back the record company for the cost of your career so far (cost of making the record and promotion)

Music that 10 years ago was stocked in every record store is now only available via import, and is recorded for minimal budget on a minor label.

If we got rid of the small handfull of companies that dictate every single item of music we get to hear then the real music created by the artists would once again be viaing for our time, instead of the filth that is nothing more then marketing gone overboard.

Your not a singer unless you can sing
Your not a musician if you cant play a musical instrument.
And you sure as hell aint a band if your all vocalists.

Lets just hope the next time ol' 50 gets shot they get him between the eyes.

411996 2005-12-12 07:43:00 Staying power - that's what's needed. Can you honestly believe that many (or any) current performers will still be given air time 30 years from now?

Ever listened to Patsy Cline or Mary MacGregor, The Beatles? Every word sung is perfectly audible, what is supposed to be background music is not used to cover up useless singers.

But then it all depends on what kind of performers one appreciates, the crash and bang brigade or true musicians. Both types have their appreciative audiences..

Muhahahahahahaha.

There are also ones like my personal favourie greenday who have been around for 10 years or longer - and in the case of greenday have changed their name from a different band who were around even longer ago

Once again im going to use Green day (excuse the miss spelling in previous posts - the correct spelling is green [space] day) as an example - they have been around for 10 years and are still topping the charts :)
