| 681497 | 2008-06-23 12:14:00 | So i'm looking to buy an ultra portable laptop and Sony Vaio TZ something series seem to be the best Going by sony.co.nz though it's about $3,500 for the standard & $4,500 for the model with SolidState hard drive Just wondering if anyone knows any cheaper options for buying new sony vaio's? Perhaps other distributors / overseas sellers who would ship to NZ? Cheers |

Sony make nice laptops, but they aren't known for being the most hardy on the market, and parts for them are sooo expensive. I'd recommend HP or Toshiba for ultraportables. The Toshiba Portege series are nice. Of you could get an Asus Eee and put XP on it - whole lot with a RAM upgrade for under $1000 :p |

I bought a 2nd hand laptop some years ago and I was charged. I have bought camera lenses and been the same. Warranty can be ok .. some of the models are internationial warranty. Often no the cheapest ones though, it maybe the first and 2nd year only thou and not all the warranty years are international. |

The MacBook Air SSD which is cheaper is still priced from $2999. Considering that Sony are the only people that make Sony laptops I would doubt that you would find the ones that you are looking for much cheaper anywhere else in NZ. |

I wasn't blowing any trumpet - I was comparing prices of similar laptops on the market with SSDs and yes plod is correct. I as taking my pricing from the 80GB hard drive MBA unfortunatley. |
