681483 2008-06-23 11:38:00 I have a friend who just got broadband and has chinese XP is trying to set it up with the CD but the installation has halted because the help assistant says "The xtra installation CD will not work with this operating system, please install a english operating system to continue" She is running XP with NO service packs. I think that installing SP2 will help but I cannot get my hands on it as my bandwidth has almost run out and she obviously can't connect to the internet. She is relying on me and needs to be online ASAP.
Thank You so much

681484 2008-06-23 11:42:00 Well I wouldnt get on the net with no SP

Whats the brand/model of the modem/router??

You dont usually need the cd anyway. Just login the router, put your username and password in it. Save the settings, and dont forget to reboot it

Just follow the instructions on what to add from whatever ISP

Its probably coz its Chinese, not because a SP isnt installed

681486 2008-06-23 11:51:00 I think Speedy meant "login in to the router" :) stu161204 (123)
681487 2008-06-23 12:07:00 Which will require a password and etc for Admin and you open this via a browser.

Usually something like 10.0.0.1

The address may vary depending on the make and model of modem or router.

Have you checked the instructions?

681488 2008-06-23 13:02:00 Login url for access to your adsl modem should be either 192.168.1.1 or 10.1.1.1, type this into the address bar in Internet Explorer (or whatever browser you're using), you'll then get a requester window asking for user name and password, answer this with 'admin' and 'admin' (usually the default, type in without the quotes), this should get you into the modem's settings interface, look for a setup screen or wizard, and input your ADSL user name and password that you should have received from your ISP either in an email or letter (my user name is in the form 'myname.xadsl@xtra.co.nz', which is different from the normal email address which doesnt include '.xadsl', but the password is the same; your details may be different depending on your ISP), save the details on that screen, the modem then should reboot (or be rebooted), you should then be connected to the 'net ;). feersumendjinn (64)
681489 2008-06-23 14:35:00 Could be 10.1.1.1 or 10.1.1.2 . The first for ethernet and and second for a USB connection.

It did not work for me using Firefox3 but my ethernet connection comes up happily under IE8 Beta.

I have not had to change it since 2004 so it has been a while.

681490 2008-06-23 23:22:00 Yup I meant log into the router. With the admin/admin username / password etc

Thats if you can figure out what the ip address is, to get into it
