| 413813 | 2005-12-18 21:25:00 | Hi. Has anyone had any bad experiences with a Nokia 6020 phone? I bought one late last September, but it died 3 weeks later. It was sent off for a "software reload". The salesperson at First Mobile told me that this model was a very reliable one, and they had not ever had any returned faulty. 11 days after getting it back it died again, was sent for repair with the "same problem", came back and died again after 2 weeks. At that point the salesperson said she would talk to her area manager about a refund. I asked for that person's name and number, but was told "we don't give those details to the public". She undertook to get back to me that morning. I heard nothing and ended up calling the 0800 Vodafone number. The very kind and sympathetic person I talked to gave me the Area Manager's name and phone number and I called him. He said he wasn't aware of my situation but he would do "whatever it takes to retain my custom". He talked me round to getting a replacement phone of the same type, and promised it would be ready for uplifting by the time I got home that afternoon, at about 2.30pm. It was. The salesperson said she had spoken to the manager and he had agreed to a replacement phone. She was somewhat surprised to learn that I had also spoken to him, and that I knew a replacement was being offered. Anyhow, I took the new phone. Now the bloody thing has exactly the same problem as the other one. I returned it yesterday saying this time I wanted a refund. The person on the counter wouldn't do what I asked, saying she needed to talk to the area manager. I'm waiting to hear from them, but I have made it clear that I won't accept a repair or replacement - I want a refund. The other thing that annoyed me more than a bit was they tried to give me a basic model phone as a temporary replacement, saying it was the only loan phone in the store. It had no PC connection so I couldn't have used it to update contacts, etc. I swore a bit and must have started to look a little scary too because surprise, surprise - someone disappeared out the back and returned with a more feature-packed PC suite compatible phone. Do you think it's unreasonable of me to want a refund? | workingmum (8134) | ||

It's not unreasonable to want a refund, and they should give you one. |

The question does arise: "what are you doing to this phone?" Do sparks fly when you connect it to your computer? :badpc: (Or only when you are talking to salespeople?) |

In fact, the phone can go for about 4 or 5 days without being charged because although it is on, it is mostly on standby. I don't know if the suggestion there is something wrong in my home environment was a serious one, but I doubt that is the problem. Vodaphone even tried to blame the charger, although that was not proven to be the culprit. The 6020 was $399 with $100 off for a trade-in. I traded my 4 year-old Sony Ericsson thinking that for $399 (effectively) I was getting a decent mid-price range phone. Now Vodaphone have got back to me offering another Nokia (I can't recall the model number) but which is valued at only $299. I told them no thanks. They've gone away again to have a think about things. I guess I'll hear from them tomorrow. Meantime I'm wondering if I agree to accept the $299 model, would it be reasonable for me to insist on a $100 air-time credit, plus a little more for personal inconvenience... k8smum (aka workingmum) |

| 413819 | 2006-07-26 09:23:00 | Hi workingmum, My reply is a little late but I got a major sense of dejavu when I read your saga . I purchased a Nokia 6020 in late 2005 and it died a week later! After receiving the replacement, I had unreliable service ( phone calls dropping out, battery indicating more power than there really was) for the following 3 months, before the replacement died as well and in the same way! I was then told buy a Nokia service centre that the phone had "liquid damage" and my warranty was void . Like you my phone was not subject to any unusual environmental conditions . I've never had a problem like this with any other phone . It is now the 26/7/06 and I'm still battling to get a replacement phone which apparently Nokia has agreed to, after I wrote a letter to the store threatening to go to the Dept of Fair Trading . It has been a long and frustrating journey but I think you have to stick to your guns and put it all down in writing . Hope you got a better replacement phone . Aussiegirl |
