I notice people are selling xbox360 online.

One of the traders quoted that it was illlegal to sell the console before the release date.

I don't think that it is true because there are plenty of parallel imported products in nz from overseas.

This was what i asked and his reply underneath

YOUR QUESTION:
I have a question. On the xbox 360 auction u said that it was illegal to
sell before the release date but there are so many imported products in
new zealand. What law is there to say it is illegal to sell xbox360 in nz
before the release date in nz?I am going to get 1 soon but I doubt that
what you are saying is right as I bought my playstation 2 before it was
selling in nz

SELLER'S ANSWER:
hi there it is illegal to sell them in countrys that have not released
them as the retailers have the right to get in there fisrt and sell them
in the shops, and why its illagal is that if every one was doing it then
microsoft would have **** all sales here, they pay for that right so i
would wait but if you really want go for it but dont say i did not tell
you so.and xbox is way better then piece a **** ps2,

Is there such law that prevents people from selling products before nz releases it?What law is there to stop people from selling before the nz sales releases?

Is this true?

413002 2005-12-15 11:04:00 Well i was reading that over in the US, Gamestop, a large gaming store took peoples orders for 360's but rather than giving them to those who ordered them... they sold them on Ebay at inflated prices...

I say sue for non existant damages cos we didnt get our fix

413003 2005-12-15 11:09:00 Sony sued a number of importers overseas when the PSP was released, No idea how it would go here in NZ if they got the squirts with someone. Metla (12)
413004 2005-12-15 11:38:00 I doubt it very much. I remember some form of parallel import law occuring, especially in terms of DVDs, but if its a one off (and with a 360 it probably would be) its not going to matter. Unless microsoft instigates some form of shrinkwrap contract. Havn't heard anything like this though. DangerousDave (697)
413005 2005-12-15 19:49:00 I have never heard of such a law, sounds doubftul.
He says "it is illegal to sell them in countries that have not released them", but this isn't some other country and to my knowledge I have not heard of a law barring individual importing for personal use. I'm not too sure about mass importing to resell though, that may be a different story. Winston might know the answer to this. Winston?
