| 412820 | 2005-12-23 01:47:00 | I have been using a SonyDSC-H! off and on for a week now, It's comnfortable to hold in one hand and nicely weighted, 12x optical zoom, on the down side it uses a sony lense instead of a carl zeis one, but to be honest I can't tell the differenceDSC-H1 (www.parallelimported.co.nz) Parents brought it a couple of weeks ago, I will be tring to use it as much as possible to save myself from buying a new one |

| 412821 | 2006-02-05 03:12:00 | Hi Guys. More than a month down the track and I took the plunge for the Fuji 5600 - based partly on the information and advice in this thread. Could not have wished for better. So far have concentrated on close-ups of small segmented wood assemblies and the quality is great. PriceSpy located a Nelson dealer who had it at more than $90 less than the local retailer. The local Kathmandu outdoor equipment 50% January sale produced a neat lightweight tripod. Off south tomorrow for a couple of weeks so we'll see how it likes mountain views. Appreciate your input. | Scouse (83) | ||

| 412825 | 2006-02-06 15:15:00 | Now the owner of the Fuji FinePix S5600, also splashed out on a 1Gb xd card. This camera is fantastic, you can take photos in the dark without flash. For anyone looking for a similar price/features camera, I highly recomend this camera. The only catch is you also need a xd card the 16Mb that comes with the camera just dosent cut it. You may also want to get 4 rechargeable AA batteries. LOL, photos in the dark without flash is just high ISO pictures + extreme low aperture + extreme low shutter. Nothing to brag about ;) AS for 1GB card, that's overkill. Unless you are shooting in Other-than-JPEG format (which I highly doubt you do) or shoot a lot of pictures (and I do mean a lot, like 200 pictures in a trip or so) you probably don't need that much picture. The average size of JPEG images on my D-Rebel is about 2MB minimum compressed JPEG= about 500 pictures. You can expect higher compression on Fuji cameras I think. You don't really need that much space :P |

If you're only photographing for fun (non-profesional stuff) don't worry about it. |

| 412827 | 2006-02-06 15:24:00 | In the 'old' 35mm cameras SLR refered to being able to see the exact image through the lense reflected off a mirror as opposed to a camera that had a seperate viewfinder off to one side giving an approximate area of view. In general SLR refered to any 35mm camera that had interchangeable lenses. With the digital cameras such as the Fuji and some others the view is aquired through the lense (much like a 35mm SLR) but the image is shown on a small LCD display inside the viewfinder or on the larger extenal LCD display, giving a fairly exact area of view in real time. SLR doesn't directly have anything to do with the quality of the camera, but the exposure meter is reading from the actual area of the photo being taken through the lense, so will provide a more accurate meter reading than a camera with a seperate viewfinder/meter. Not quite. In Digital SLR the LCD screen is only used to review pictures and histogram (pixel's colour tone distribution, but viewpoint is pretty much the good old WYSIWYG through the viewfinder. External LCD display for image pre-viewing is mostly on digital point-and-shoot. (Finepix, for example). I know, because I own a D-SLR :). D-SLR is almost the same as SLR aside from the "digital" factor, so your descriptioon is almost spot-on. |

We splashed out yesterday and bought one... but without checking it out online first <gulp> so we're hoping its a good one. From what I've read on here it sounds like it might be okay? :D Mike. |

| 412829 | 2006-02-06 21:18:00 | LOL, photos in the dark without flash is just high ISO pictures + extreme low aperture + extreme low shutter. Nothing to brag about ;) Thanks for pointing this out, yes I can set that all manually if I wish. Or just move a small dial on-top of the camera and let it deside, heaps faster, the next photo I take I may want to use the flash so it's another 1 second to move the dial to auto. AS for 1GB card, that's overkill. As I have more money than a bull can 5hit the cost did'nt really bother me. |
