2008-06-23 04:23:00 | I just rar'd an DV-AVI - Original Size 213Mb, Rar'd size 177Mb not much saving on size. Simply convert it to MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 it will drop it from 10Mb down to around 2Mb at most. Open it up in likes of Movie Maker if you have nothing else. Save it out to one of the formats in that. Any conversion help or links to software - http://www.videohelp.com

2008-06-23 04:50:00 | You don't convert, you compress. http://handbrake.fr/ :) handbrake does not input AVI from memory, it can output them though. It is ok for DVD to mpegs but it has a lot of limitations.

2008-06-23 05:08:00 | Hmmmmmm, what a performance . :groan: Downloaded Handbrake but then had to download Net Framework2 to install it . That done I go to resize but Handbrake cans see the avi file???? The file is in C:\My Videos\ and everything else can see it except Handbrake???? The file isnt corrupt as it plays fine . The Help file suggests the file may be copy protected and needs to be ripped but I dont believe that one . Now Ive just read Bantus post and I think he may well be spot on and Handbrake is well named because it cant see avi files in folders . :groan: Quite why anyone would design such a programme eludes me . So, off on plan B convert to MP4 somehow, which is sort of where I started . :D

2008-06-23 05:29:00 | B.M. You could just rar it up and dump it on a web site and let your brother in law download it from there. That would be nice and simple. Here are a couple, but there are dozens of them around. www.filedropper.com 5Gb www.savefile.com 60Mb rapidshare.com 100Mb

You can come out of the corner now wratterus and redeem yourself . :D It looks to me like a AVI to MPG converter is what is required but Googling that produces no less than 640,000 hits so I figured there must be an easier way . :groan: So come on guys, what do you recommed in the way of a nice little programme that can do the conversion . :thanks |

2008-06-24 01:51:00 | Zipping/raring a media file that size is only going to cut 100-500kb off the size of it if your lucky. Media files don't zip up well. Not exactly, i 7Ziped a 90meg AVI into 1.6 mb the otherday =)

2008-06-24 02:48:00 | Well, just for the record, I tried Zipping it but all I managed was reducing it from 10.8meg to 9.43 meg. I really need to do better than that. :groan:
