680993 2008-06-22 01:55:00 Hi
I have my Dlink DSL-G604T wireless router at 1 end of house and 1 computer there, then at this end of the hous i have a laptop merrily connected wirelessly, but i also have 2 desktops here, 1 with a wireless dlink dwa-110 usb that is connected fine, however the other computer has no wireless device or internet connection, so i got out my DSE wired router and linked the 2 desktops here together but whenever i plug the ethernet into the desktop that has wireless then the wireless stops working. it does not say disabled though :illogical What im trying to do is have the non wireless desktop connected through ethernet to my DSE router to my desktop with wireless and share its wireless connectiuon going to the DSL-G604T that is connected to the internet. Its complicated to explain and there probably be a lot of questions but if anyone can (try) give me a hand to keep the wireless going when i put the ethernet in so i can share the wireless then that would be great. All help appreciated.
Thanks

680994 2008-06-22 01:57:00 Could you possibly post a network diagram?? It would probably make it easier to understand :) jwil1 (65)
680995 2008-06-22 02:29:00 Doesn't the Dlink have wired (have ports) and wireless??

If it does, it'll probably be easier getting a USB wireless adapter / PCI card for the non-wireless desktop.

I dont think you can share wireless from a desktop, if its connected to a wireless router. It'll be better if you go through the router

And I dont think you can use wireless if the non-wireless PC is connected by ethernet to a computer that has a wireless adapter on it

680996 2008-06-22 02:40:00 So What i want is:

Guide to below Map:
desktop 1= no wireless and wanting to use wireless from desktop 2 via ethernet (Running XP)
desktop 2= usb dwa-110 wireless (Running Vista)
DSE= DSE wired router that im using as wired link between desktops 1 & 2
DSL-G604T = Dlink DSL-G604T wireless router (connected 2 net)

Map thing:
Desktop 1 - DSE - Desktop 2 - DSL-G604T

That is probably still hard to make sense of, but its hard to explain

Yes the wireless router has ethernet ports but budget is a bit small ATM and anyway its a testing computer thats probably worthe less then the wireless adapter lol (duron 1.3ghz)

:thanks

680997 2008-06-22 02:44:00 I have just attempted this, just using a laptop with wireless instead of a desktop :p

I connected to my wireless network and bridged the wifi and ethernet connections. Connected a patch cable, ethernet port to ethernet port and done.

EDIT: Speedy, you are so wrong, I am running it ATM, exactly as I have stated.

Random, you do not need a router between the PCs.

Both of mine are running Vista, but you shouldn't have any issues.

My setup currently is: Desktop with no wireless > Laptop with wireless > wireless access point > router > internet.

In fact, I posted this on my desktop. :D

680998 2008-06-22 02:54:00 Thanks, So i Dont Need A router between? Ill try it now a helpless random (13059)
680999 2008-06-22 02:54:00 Well if people want to make things difficult so be it :D Speedy Gonzales (78)
681000 2008-06-22 03:01:00 Well if people want to make things difficult so be it :D It is not actually difficult, took me less than 5 minutes and that included finding the cable, and as the OPer said, budget is tight. So getting a wireless adapter is out. The_End_Of_Reality (334)
681001 2008-06-22 03:01:00 Just tried connecting the 2 directly by ethernet cable but the XP computer said Limited or no connectivity and the vista com said Limited connectivity. Any ideas a helpless random (13059)
681002 2008-06-22 03:05:00 What $20 is dear?? I dont think so.

You can buy a wireless 11g adapter for $20 down the road

Install the drivers plug it in, configure it
