682899 2008-06-27 02:28:00 Hi Guys, I am still trying to find out why my pc is slow, I have been looking in the taskmanager and it seems that the system Idle is take 100% CPU Usage, i have googled it but it goes right over my head, anything u guys can recommend?? mark1978 (13845)
682900 2008-06-27 02:30:00 System idle usually goes up and down and will go up to 99-100%

So thats not the prob

Slow as in what? When you do what?

Whats the OS and how much ram is installed now?

682901 2008-06-27 02:33:00 burning takes twice as long now, also when a lot of windows are open or some programs are open then the mouse is slow...I have managed to speed things up when right clicking on the process in task manager and set it the priority on high mark1978 (13845)
682902 2008-06-27 02:37:00 That may happen with burning, (And whatever program youre using. It may also depend on the version of the program, it maybe buggy), if thats the only time CPU usage goes up

Whats the OS and how much ram have you got?

682903 2008-06-27 02:39:00 Right click on the task bar, and go to task manager. On the processes tab, find out which process is using all the CPU.

It might be one of the svchost.exe processes. If so, I have a fix... :p

You can click on the heading (where it says CPU) to arrange them by whats using the most CPU, makes it easier to find out which process it is.

System idle process is supposed to be reading between 90% and 100% when the PC is idle.

682904 2008-06-27 02:47:00 Hi wratterus!! I have 6 scvhost in my task manager and I have read something about that too but seem unable to fix it....what have you got?? mark1978 (13845)
682905 2008-06-27 03:13:00 Yes, you should have about 6, but is it one of them that's using all the CPU? No point applying a fix for the wrong problem. wratterus (105)
682906 2008-06-27 03:19:00 what is a good registry cleaner?? Coz thats another thing I think off because the pc is so slow! mark1978 (13845)
682907 2008-06-27 03:22:00 If you want us to help you, answer the questions! :illogical

Stay away from registry cleaners, they can do more harm than good. CCleaner is about the only Registry Cleaner that's worth bothering with.

The PC is probably being slowed down by software running in the background, and may need more RAM, but we can get to that later. If a process is using 100% cpu, that will slow things down a lot.

682908 2008-06-27 03:24:00 does the graph show high or low cpu usage? System idle, while it uses 90-100%, doesn't count towards the total cpu usage because it is by definition not doing anything. utopian201 (6245)
