| 416808 | 2005-12-31 03:08:00 | Just come back from holiday so will share a couple of thoughts, Hastings top10 motor camp, is great I hadn't been there since I was a child, the unit was fully selfcontained and clean, what a pleasure. Splash planet managed to keep the kids entertained for the day, As for the food there what a disapointment only one choice and that was fish and chips of some discription. Manukau top 10 another great stay in what seemed a brand new unit. rainbows end managed to keep me and the boys entertained for the whole day. Not only was there a choice of about 5 different eating place there the food was good and the price not bad considering where we were. Rotorua I won't name the motel we stayed at, but we had to ask for the unit to be recleaned, it was not good considering the town we were in. The problem with rotorua is that motels arn't willing to take a booking for one noght in case they miss out on a booking for three nights. The Motel was a 3 plus star, but with standards well below that of the motorcamps the govening body needs to readjust the ratings. Both the top ten had internet access via small cafes set up, the motel had nothing. to be continued.. |

Iam surprised you enjoyed Rainbows End, the last time I went there it looked like a dump & all run down. |

We are sitting here at home saving our money. Been under the trees at the rear of the house with friends today. Priceless! Come June or July we will go. Less traffic. Motel prices are cheaper etc. |

| 416811 | 2005-12-31 11:51:00 | timing for holiday coincided with my work shutting down over the xmas break and mother inlaw over from the states, as for rainbows end, it was mainly for my two sons, as it's not something we do often | plod (107) | ||

| 416813 | 2005-12-31 21:32:00 | The Qualmark "star" rating system is somewhat misleading. The star ratings are based on facilities, fixed formulae, and an inspection of a pre-selected part of the establishment on a pre-arranged day. More value is given to "enhancements" than basic services. A more basic motel with a comfortable bed and endless hot water will get a lower rating than one with lots of extras but hard beds and a weak shower. Motels/Hotels have to pay to receive a Qualmark rating and it's entirely voluntary. There is no required rating standard in NZ. I think you should name the motel in Rotorua that you found dirty. That way punters can "vote with their feet" and send a message to the motel owners that poor service is not acceptable. When in Rotorua I stay either at the Silver Fern Motor Inn (www.silverfernmotorinn.co.nz) or the Geneva Motor Lodge (www.genevamotorlodge.co.nz) . These are rated 4 star + and four star respectively. I would recommend them to anyone. |

| 416816 | 2005-12-31 22:49:00 | The question that begs to be asked is why would anyone want to "stay" in Rotorua for more than a day trip. It's nothing more than a toilet, oops I mean a tourist trap. | Greg (193) | ||
