415534 2005-12-24 07:35:00 Just come back from cleaning out an 18 month old Dell.
Can't believe they would put a 200w PSU in the thing!!!
200w!? I had a 7 year old real PC here yesterday that had a 250w in it...

Hmm... Well Philips used to make Dell monitors, maybe they still do, there was not much wrong them in the past, if anything at all.

415538 2005-12-24 08:44:00 The monitors are made in the same factory in china as the phillips one... DangerousDave (697)
415539 2005-12-24 09:51:00 Dell do great monitors, I believe they are the same screen as the apple one's plod (107)
415540 2005-12-24 10:06:00 Dell have there name stamped on a broad range of screens, From high end LCD's to fuzzy junk that looks like dogs vomit, Have a look at those fishbowl CRT's on the Warehouse Dells as a good example of so low-end they should be burned at the stake.

Then they have low end LCD's bundled with their systems, and a seperate range of high-end screens available (though not in NZ as far as I know)

It goes back to the same old issue though, Unless you can identify the exact model and find some specs on it then your just taking a punt as to the capabilities of the screen.

Something else I saw the other day, A group of people had figured out how to get the screen to display the company of manufacer and 3 seperate factories/Brands were identified with the exact same model number, yetr all had different specs and capabilities.

Blah blah blah.

415541 2005-12-24 10:22:00 you get what you pay for bob_doe_nz (92)
415542 2005-12-24 10:40:00 That is how they make money. Price it good and use items that is cheap but still give you the key parts that is good like the correct cpu and a sized hdd etc in a all pretty case with good warranty support. Together under a noticeable respected brand.

Nothing particularly wrong with it thou they are aiming that market. It does the job. Not ideal for a power user or a overclocker.

At the CRT days they do Trinitron as well, heard its the same as Sony's but relabelled but they also have the low end stuff as well. I heard that in the USA you can get WD Raptor HD as well, maybe here in NZ as well.

We had a 200w power supply we had in our 1992 386 and it was used again to right now still used for our scanner, AMD 200Mhz. Bro got a cheap system again does the job for his general applications, all in one mobo, 512MB, 80GB SATA, that's all the parts inside it, and oh yeah a 56k modem card. That's all the parts inside it really with a 320w PSU. Quite like a cheap warehouse bought Dell system but it does the job. $500.

Earlier today I used cpu-z to check my system my current P3 laptop, IBM Thinkpads RAM are pricey and it was made by Micron company and relaballed as IBM. No errors tested out so I am happy.

I think the bad thing with brand name PC is becos of the unnecessary software but not too bad becos any good computer literate pple can do is uninstall those you don't like. But brand names suits the market for those less computer literate pple. They have good warranty support thou. Versus a local small dealer or even a national dealer. But hey business wise thou they are doing very good.

Adding up the hardware he has connected - I'm surprised it boots.
