415290 2005-12-26 06:43:00 I don't see the need to justify the issue, I simply don't care.

As for people who want to get uptight about the issue, The next time they are getting their hair cut, or sitting in a cafe and can hear some music playing, Go have a word to the manager and make a pratt of yourself, ask em if they have paid royalties to the apropriate parties for public broadcasting, and if not then call them a theif and take your bizzo elsewhere......

415291 2005-12-26 07:49:00 No I don't.

How many artists feel guilty about not donating to charity after making millions? (Not that all artists do this)

Why should I worry myself with a download? What relevance does that have to whether or not you steal music? Sure, donating to charities is a good thing but if someone doesn't it doesn't justify not paying for their music.

415292 2005-12-26 09:22:00 I don't get music off the net coz I don't have the hardware capacity anyway but if I did I wouldn't feel guilty.

Here's just one justification.

This whole biz has highlighted the issue about who gets what part of every dollar for the sale of recorded music. It's brought it out into the open where it wasn't such an argued about issue before and that is good.

PS for struth's sake jameskan how often do you hear the word 'musics'?
Gee, mark. I just realised that "music" itself is a plural term when I encountered an advertisement in the TV Guide. Thanks for telling me :D

Cheers :)

Does this mean that downloading music via P2P is legal and justifiable, then? I wonder what do the moderators think of this matter. Jen, where are you...?

Cheers :)

Which?

You mean the part where I said I didn't give a rats about trying to justify anything?

Or the part where I said you should go play pretend cop with Hair dressers?

Anyhow, What difference does it make what any moderator thinks of the issue?, their job is to moderate the board, not peoples opinions. In regard to P2P, the only opinion that matters to me is my own.

Bill Gates himself could make an apperance, state his view and it would have no bearing on what I think or do, Hell, While we are at it, lets get the Pope and Bin Laden in here as well.....

I will make the RIAA a deal, if the US stops stealing billions of dollars of Oil out of Iraq, I will reduce my "personal storage solution" by 10%.

 Wow! attempting to summons mods to ones own thread by hope! :p I don't see why this is a moderator issue, i mean after all, the loaded question was asked about what people think of downloading music that may be breaching copywright. many people don't feel guilt on the issue. Please except this.

I know many a musician who is thankful to the net as a way of distributing their music, because without it they would be forced to enter a recording contract, or more likely, just forget it.

So who's it hurting again?
The musician who wants it's music out there?
No.

Last years fad artist whose CDs were bought in mass by well meaning grandparents as well intended xmas pressys?
No.

Currently popular artists whose music is shared by P2P applications, made popular by marketing and exposure untill sheep buy the CDs or go to their shows?
No.

The talented musician noone has ever heard of till some prick like me brings his flaptop to the pub, and plays the songs on it between bands, and gets asked who it is?
No.

The record companys who are loosing out to more direct marketing techniques, as we move away from buying overpriced CDs via a distribution network that eats 90% of the on the shelf price. These companys are realising that more and more bands can reach their audiances through concert marketing www.music.net.nz www.myspace.com and the likes, and therefore the record companys are guenuinly worried about becoming as extint as the dinosaurs they are fast becoming. Are they worried as their safe as houses pyramid of power has the foundations crumbling beneath them?

O yes.

As i said before, if you want to support an artist, go to it's show at the local pub or what ever, and buy a CD or a T shirt
