414655 2005-12-22 04:17:00 Thanks for the responses so far folks. It's not a frivolous poll, so it's much appreciated. Greg (193)
414656 2005-12-22 04:19:00 You probally wont even use that pin, just chop it off. :badpc:
Why would they put pins on the CPU that aren't used?

414657 2005-12-22 04:24:00 Why would they put pins on the CPU that aren't used?Good question, but my guess is it's for future proofing on the part of the manufacturer. And/or to be compatible with different motherboards. Greg (193)
414658 2005-12-22 04:25:00 Rob is messing with you. Metla (12)
414659 2005-12-22 04:29:00 So, How did you manage to bend a single pin back on itself?

Shoot it with the slug gun?, Hit it with a tiny hammer?, fly the worlds smalled RC Plane into it? attack it with a sewing needle?

414661 2005-12-22 04:48:00 You put it into the socket incorrectly!
You tried to put it in and it went belly up!

It is still talked about in hushed tones ...

That would bend more than just 1 pin

414664 2005-12-22 04:58:00 If it's bent double facing into the rows you might be able to slide a pin or needle along the row, prizing it out enough to lever it up sort of straight, then Metla's suggestion of credit card either side to get the kink out.

I'd try buying a cheapy plastic magnifying glass from the 2$ shop... you've already blown enough money I guess :groan:
