681988 2008-06-25 00:41:00 Hi. I just downloaded the Nokia PC suite, to connect my phone and Laptop. My laptop has an infrared port on the front, and my phone has one on the side. Problem is, they won't connect. All the PC drivers are installed correctly (I think. Nothing leaps out at me in the device manager). I set the phone to connect through infrared, but the software doesn't even seem to try (it just goes to a troubleshooting page). The help files don't tell me much, other than that if Infrared connection is given as an option, it has detected an Infrared port on the computer. I know my phone supports Infrared, and they are as close as possible, aimed at each other. Can anyone help?

Edit: My phone is a Nokia 5140i if it helps.

681989 2008-06-25 00:46:00 I had a similar setup with a 6225 a few years ago, never got it to work.

Get a data cable, $25ish off TM. Save yourself the hassle.

Unless someone else has a magical cure... :p

681990 2008-06-25 00:48:00 I would get a data cable, but I'm a poor student, and all the bits are there, so it should work somehow. ubergeek85 (131)
681991 2008-06-25 00:53:00 Does the program let you select a COM port??

You may have to change to the port the infra red is on.

What version of Windows is on it

681992 2008-06-25 00:57:00 Doesn't let me select a COM port. Will play with that. It's Vista. Thanks. ubergeek85 (131)
681993 2008-06-25 01:20:00 Did you get the right version (europe.nokia.com) for your mobile? And is it the latest version ? Speedy Gonzales (78)
681994 2008-06-25 01:24:00 Ok, I've narrowed it down to this: I need to check the speed that the infrared port is running at. Nokia says:

Adjust the speed of the other device's infrared connection to 115.2 kbps. Go to Control Panel -> Wireless Link -> Hardware tab -> Properties -> Advanced tab. In the Property list, select Maximum Connect Rate, and set the value at 115.2 kbps.

But that's for XP. Can anyone tell me the Vista equivalent, as I can't find it.

Oh and yeah, I got the right version, from the nokia site. Version 6.86.9.3. As a last resort, I'm going to try rebooting (didn't after install). Thanks for all the help.

681995 2008-06-25 02:10:00 Stuff it. Even a poor student can afford $6.50. ubergeek85 (131)
681996 2008-06-25 02:22:00 $6.50? Is that for a data cable? That's cheap.... wratterus (105)
681997 2008-06-25 02:23:00 And it includes shipping of $5.50. Trademe is great. ubergeek85 (131)
