How many firewalls are installed?? Is Nvidia firewall installed??

It looks like Symantec Internet Security, and Norton Personal Firewall Monitor (Is this a firewall)? are on this system as well .

Uninstall two of them, (Nvidia firewall being one of them if this is installed, it causes probs . If there's 3 firewalls installed), you should only have ONE running / installed, as they'll conflict .

Then reboot

683439 2008-06-29 00:16:00 which firewall would you recommend keeping installed? arch (5593)
683440 2008-06-29 00:30:00 The one in my sig below actually. Its free, but you may have to get used to a few popups asking for files requesting access, for a while.

If Nvidia firewall is installed it has been known to corrupt files you download from the Internet

Symantec Internet security eats up ram, like there's no tomorrow

And I've never used Norton Personal Firewall Monitor if this is a firewall. So, dont know how good or bad it is.

I'm not using a firewall here at the mo. (I used to use Symantec's firewall, then Comodo). But right now, I'm just using XP's default firewall

683442 2008-06-29 01:42:00 Cool ! thats good to hear :)

Umm go to control panel, click on security center, click on the down arrow on firewall.

If it says Windows firewall is on, yup its working. (XP's firewall is OK, but I dont think it stops trojans etc broadcasting themselves like other firewalls)

Is it saying there's no virus scanner under Virus Protection now?

Since you may no longer have a virus scanner, try Avast Home (avast.com)

Its free, after you install it, you'll have to reboot, go here (avast.com) fill in the blanks, it'll send you a key by email.

After you get an email with the key, right mouse on the a in the taskbar (this is Avast's icon), select about. Click on licence key. Copy and paste the key you received by email here. It'll extend its registration. You have to do this every 12-14 mths or so.....

Where's that Norton's personal firewall that was in the log?? Has that been uninstalled?

If you do want a firewall, I would try Comodo, it may get some getting use to, but it is also free.
