683393 2008-06-28 21:09:00 Hi Guys

I have two laptops that I want to transfer some files to and from etc.

They are both fairly new with XP etc.

What would be the best, easiest, cheapest way to connect them together so that I can transfer some files ?

683394 2008-06-28 21:55:00 You need a Crossover ethernet cable, it has to be Crossover then just link them with it and XP will see them both gary67 (56)
683395 2008-06-28 21:59:00 Use a crossover cable, see Jamuz's signiture for a guide on how to do this easily. stormdragon (6013)

Do you think Dick Smith would sell those cross over cables ?

I checked out Jamuz's sig, but it looks too complex - I do not want to network them, just transfer some files rather than using CD's etc.

683397 2008-06-28 22:49:00 yep dick smith has them. And a cross over network is not that difficult

If you dont like the idea of networking dick smith also usb to usb cables but dont use the normal usb cables as the usb to usb are wired differently

You will need to network them to transfer files.
The other way, which may be a lot easier for you, would be to get a USB thumb drive.
4GB ones are pretty cheap these days.

Does XP have to be on both cptrs for this to work, or will one with XP "see" another with, say 98SE?
