418646 2006-01-05 22:44:00 Where is the best place for an Invercargill person like myself to buy AV cables?
I need about 8 meters of video cable (for connecting my computer to my TV) & a minijack to dual RCA (Female) cable (I've already got a long male to male dual RCA cable) for connecting my computer to my stereo.

Is This (www.dse.co.nz) a good option for the video cable? I can't find the audio connector I want on the DSE site

418647 2006-01-06 00:16:00 DSE do have a 3.5 mm to 2 X RCA socket adapter ... P6572 (search for "stereo to RCA").

You would probably pay about the same anywhere for that video cable. You can pay a lot more for the fancy looking ones. (Even at DSE at $29 for a 900 mm long one. ;))

I think I have found what you are talking about (Adpt 3.5mm St Plug-2 x RCA Skt (www.dse.co.nz) ). That will do, but it looks like it won't fit into the front headphone jack.

I did find a cable that looked right(DSE Cable 3.5mm Mono Plug - 2xRCA Socket 250mm (www.dse.co.nz)), but it is 3.5mm mono, not stereo. Will it still carry a stereo signal if I try to put one through it, or will it convert it to mono?

418649 2006-01-06 00:50:00 Is it one of those nasty confined spaces? I have been trying to fit one of those adaptors into a deeply recessed computer sound output socket.

The mono one will just short the two channels together.

Jaycar (www.jaycar.co.nz) might have the answer ... have a look at their "WA 7016" (enter it exactly in their search window).

418650 2006-01-06 01:25:00 I would prefer somewhere with a store in Invers so I can get it tonight. Jaycar have a minimum order of $10 & I can't find anything saying if they have free shipping.

If I can find a 3.5mm stereo extension cable & use that with the adapter, will that make much difference to the sound quality (using onboard sound so its probably not that great to start with)

418651 2006-01-06 01:36:00 Unless you've got "golden ears", you won't notice. (And those with golden ears somehow aren't as sensitive whe they are blindfolded. :))

How's your soldering? If you got a plug and socket and a short length of cable you could make your own 3.5 mm extension. Or even a 3.5 mm plug and a couple of RCA sockets ... for your own adaptor. :D

418653 2006-01-06 02:20:00 DSE may not be cheap but for cables wires and stuff .. and things like resistors, capacitors they are quite cheap. Sometimes cheaper and sometimes not as cheap as Jaycar thou. I bought a SATA cable and cheaper than my store which I go to .. a avg pricespy store. Thou for geeky PC parts those real computer stores are less. Nomad (952)
