417790 2006-01-03 23:23:00 Speculation is mounting that Google are reportedly developing a low-cost computer (media.guardian.co.uk)or internet-enabled device that will run on a new operating system developed by Google, and costing as little as $200.

Any takers? :D

(Edited to say that I searched and couldn't find a thread on this - apologies if I missed one)

417791 2006-01-04 00:05:00 I wouldn't buy one myself, but I'd possibly recommend it to non-savvy people who wanted something basic. Greg (193)

417793 2006-01-04 02:11:00 There is something kinda like that here in the US..we call it Web-TV......nothing to get all virused-up. It is just usefull for IM's and e-mail...not too much more...but I never allow any posts or e-s from a friend who has it...it is full of malware that doesn't affect it, just a real computer! 417796 2006-01-04 06:26:00 I agree with Greg. Many people only just want a basic machine and if the price was right it would be more than OK for them. allcamp (1882)

...and wouldn't it be nice if it sucked some of the zombied and spoofed units off the ether too?

Imagine..if they go out and buy "El-Cheepos" and don't run 'puters that can actually cause some damage to the ether...just say.......... 5% leave the internet as bonefide real-gosh computers and go to this "Simple-Is-Better" and "No-Processor-On-My-End" type stuff. ........how much cleaner the net would be.

Getting rid ( :badpc: )of just that many hacked and zombied units might be worth it all.
