Actually, I think many of them were assembled in the PYE Waihi factory in Auckland from 1974 onwards and have stood the test of time. Obviously they could never compete with the super-amps which came later but their small size and profile coupled with the good tuner made them a winner.

The Pye Waihi factory in Auckland ????????? Where is that? lol

418064 2006-01-06 09:52:00 Hey pctek, that is a cool little amplifier you have there, an Akai, I used to fix them, the audio IC hybrid goes faulty, they have a very sensitive tuner and are still sort after. I sold one for $100 last year.

I have a slightly different model (AAR1) but faulty one here, after seeing your setup I might get round to fixing it and using it on my system for extra audio power on the computer.Somewhere round here I have a pic (I think it also has) my fathers stereo before he died. Consisted of a couple of Akai tape decks, sound mixer (I think he designed it himself.. I remember he did all the pcb design for it) as well a Perraux pre-amp and Perraux poweramp.
Unfortunately my stepmother gave it to his brothers, who either wrecked it or sold it for booze money
Will look for it though if youre interested

That last view . . . youse sure use strange looking laundry lines in NZ . I will admit they look substantial and pretty damage-proof though .

Is your laundry really that heavy to require clotheslines that hearty?

Judging by the numerous clotheslines you must take in laundry for extra money too .
